Position Summary:

As an Senior Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a vital role as an assistant to our physicians. You will be cross trained to perform a range of administrative and clinical duties. The Senior Ophthalmic Technician is more directly involved with patient care and assisting the physician during and after the exam, to include assistance with minor surgical procedures and a higher level of documentation after the appointment.

Job Duties & Essential Functions:

  • Meet and greet patients.
  • Assist the physician with patient care and minor procedures.
  • Perform vision and ocular tests, explaining procedures to patients.
  • Document exam details and physician findings in the electronic chart.
  • Ensure patient understanding of all instructions.
  • Precept and train fellow technicians.
  • Prepare, maintain, and clean treatment rooms and ophthalmic instruments.
  • Report equipment malfunctions.
  • Perform ancillary testing and document results.
  • Administer medications according to compliance standards.
  • Maintain inventory and assist with equipment upkeep.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Excellent written, verbal, and listening skills
  • Strong interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician or one (1) year of specialized ophthalmic experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification preferred or enrolled within twelve (12) months of hire and completion within two (2) years of hire.
  • Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) required or completion within 45 days of hire

Work Schedule:

  • Rotating Schedule - including evenings and weekends
