OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Manufacturing Engineer is a challenging and critical position. This position is highly energetic requiring significant multi-tasking and exceptional communication skills across many aspects of the business. The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for the functions and experiences listed below.

  • Develop and improve our manufacturing processes by aligning our product with the proper manufacturing methods, Assembly and Test (A&T) techniques, tooling, and the appropriate potential suppliers.
  • Be well versed in our customers’ requirements, including technical, schedule, cost and required documentation.
  • Be an internal advisor to our product design engineering group and participate in the product development reviews with our engineering and program teams as well as our customers.
  • Assist in Design To Cost (DTC) and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) .
  • Act as a liaison between Assembly and Test (A&T) group, our suppliers, procurement, and engineering group to deal with cost reduction, manufacturing issues, lead time reduction strategies as well as the characterization of our existing and future supply base.
  • Be prepared to review and approve all detail design drawings for producibility and be well versed in the application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and drawing checking.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Evaluate manufacturing and assembly processes and methods by applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials.
  • Engage with suppliers; partner and implement improvements with A&T operators.
  • Develop and improve assembly and test methods through collaboration with the Product Design Engineers, Quality and A&T operators.
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout as required.
  • Ensure product and process quality by creating and validating by test and/or analysis the design of the test equipment and testing methods; testing of finished product and process capacities and capabilities; establishing standards; and validating manufacturing processes and their throughputs.
  • Provide manufacturing decision-making information for such items as detailed drawings, production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements and needs.
  • Creating and validating A&T routers and work instructions..
  • Understand and comply with all Government Regulations, best practice Industry Standards and Specific Customer Flow downs.
  • Bridge the Program Management, Design and Manufacturing Engineering, A&T, Quality and Operations areas of the business through a continuous elevated level of communication and cooperation.
  • Have a role in facilities growth, modifications, and expansion.
  • Have a collaborative team-based approach.
  • Implementation and training of lean principals.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.


Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering or significant related experience in the duties specified of 10+ years.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills by example, participating in, and running multifaceted teams.
  • Understanding of the essential functions of purchasing, planning, inventory, and operations roles.
  • Exceptional problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas both written and orally so others will understand.
  • Ability to present technical information to individuals and to small cross functional groups.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and methods consistent with a low volume high mix environment.
  • Ability to deal with complex customer hardware, hardware specifications, manufacturing methods and procedures, manufacturing quality, product development, supplier development/evaluation.
  • Strong history applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) & (ANSI Y14.5M) is essential.
  • The knowledge and ability to utilize basic inspection equipment is essential.
  • U.S. Citizen, no dual citizenship allowed.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • The ability to read drawings and a thorough understanding of multi-level BOM’s is a plus.
  • Understanding of the requirements of AS9100 is a plus.
  • Knowledge of aerospace traceable configuration management techniques and hardware control requirements is a plus.
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks is a plus.
  • Knowledge of certification/qualification testing per DO-160 and/or MIL-STD-810 is plus.
  • History with small to mid-sized companies with a high mix low volume market is a plus.

  • The candidate must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • This role is not eligible for remote working.
