Key Responsibilities

The Manufacturing Engineer role is both demanding and essential, requiring a high level of energy, multitasking abilities, and outstanding communication skills across various business functions. The individual in this position will be accountable for the following:

  • Enhancing manufacturing workflows by aligning products with suitable production techniques, assembly, and testing methods, as well as identifying appropriate suppliers.
  • Understanding customer specifications, including technical requirements, timelines, costs, and necessary documentation.
  • Acting as a consultant to the product design engineering team and participating in product development evaluations with engineering and program teams.
  • Assisting in Design To Cost (DTC) and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) initiatives.
  • Facilitating communication between the Assembly and Test (A&T) team, suppliers, procurement, and engineering to address cost-saving measures, manufacturing challenges, and lead time reduction strategies.
  • Reviewing and approving detailed design drawings for manufacturability, with a strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

Specific Duties

  • Assessing manufacturing and assembly techniques by leveraging knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials.
  • Collaborating with suppliers and A&T operators to implement improvements.
  • Refining assembly and testing procedures in partnership with Product Design Engineers, Quality Assurance, and A&T personnel.
  • Boosting manufacturing efficiency through workflow analysis, spatial planning, and equipment layout optimization.
  • Ensuring product and process quality by validating test equipment designs and testing methodologies, establishing standards, and confirming manufacturing processes.
  • Providing critical manufacturing insights regarding detailed drawings, production schedules, labor, and material costs.
  • Creating and validating A&T routing and work instructions.
  • Complying with all relevant government regulations, industry standards, and specific customer requirements.
  • Facilitating collaboration among Program Management, Design and Manufacturing Engineering, A&T, Quality, and Operations.
  • Contributing to facility growth and modifications.
  • Emphasizing a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
  • Implementing and training on lean principles.
  • Performing additional tasks as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience (10+ years).
  • Proven leadership capabilities through participation in and management of diverse teams.
  • Comprehensive understanding of purchasing, planning, inventory, and operations functions.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for conveying information clearly.
  • Ability to present technical information to individuals and small cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes suited for low-volume, high-mix environments.
  • Experience dealing with complex customer hardware and specifications, manufacturing methods, and quality assurance.
  • Strong background in applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
  • Proficiency in using basic inspection tools.
  • U.S. Citizenship required; dual citizenship is not permitted.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to interpret drawings and a solid understanding of multi-level Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Familiarity with AS9100 requirements.
  • Knowledge of aerospace configuration management techniques and hardware control standards.
  • Experience with SolidWorks software.
  • Understanding of certification and qualification testing per DO-160 and/or MIL-STD-810.
  • Background in small to mid-sized companies operating in a high-mix, low-volume market.
