The Conservatory’s Community Division provides private instruction for students ranging in ages four through adult on over 15 instruments and voice, songwriting & composition, music theory, and more. Classes run year-round, and admission is rolling. The core of the program is the 32-week academic year, with a flexible summer session.

The position will require teaching in-person lessons at the University of Mount Saint Vincent campus for a minimum of one or two afternoon/evenings per week, with a preference for availability on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and/or Fridays. This is a part-time, hourly, non-exempt position. The weekly hours will be determined by student enrollment

Community Division faculty may be invited to take on University of Mount Saint Vincent students or teach University classes as adjunct faculty, as occasion warrants.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching private lessons to students of diverse ages, personalities, experience levels, and learning styles
  • Foster a holistic approach to music education and engagement appropriate to each student’s development
  • Develop lesson plans tailored to each student’s needs and interests while providing a strong musical foundation
  • Explain, demonstrate, reinforce, and evaluate appropriate practice and performance techniques
  • When appropriate, help students work towards Conservatory recitals and other performance opportunities
  • Maintain student attendance records
  • Maintain good and timely communication with families, students, colleagues and staff.

Requirements

  • Master of Music in Piano performance and have a minimum of 3-5 years teaching experience in an academic or community music school environment
  • Substantial professional and teaching experience will be considered in lieu of an advanced degree in piano performance
  • Versatility and flexibility to work with students of diverse ages, personalities, experience levels, and learning styles is highly valued

Benefits

  • The hourly rate begins at $50.00/per hour and is commensurate with experience
  • The adjunct fee for teaching University students is $1,000 per credit per semester
