Title: Prevention Coordinator
Summary: Safe Harbor’s Prevention Coordinator will be responsible for implementing strategic prevention programming that is culturally relevant and accessible, with the intent to reach communities disproportionately impacted by domestic abuse. Prevention programming includes the Relationship Education Project (REP) and training that aims to provide the community and youth with education and skills to prevent domestic abuse. This includes providing prevention programming in middle and high schools within Safe Harbor’s service area. Training for facilitators in schools, community-based settings, and faith-based settings. This includes the use of an age-appropriate, research-based, violence prevention curriculum.
Reports To: Education Program Manager
Job Responsibilities:
- Schedules and facilitates REP curriculum in middle and high school classrooms within Safe Harbor’s four county service area.
- Provides facilitator training to potential facilitators in middle and high schools, community-based, and faith-based organizations.
- Builds relationships and coordinate plans with schools and community contacts to make domestic abuse prevention a priority within Safe Harbor’s service area.
- Maintains contact with all REP Trained facilitators, assisting with updates, modeling classes, support with extra conversation with students, resources, reminders to complete REP data, etc.
- Assists supervisor with the development of new curriculum and training of new staff as needed.
- Assists supervisor and education coordinator in reviewing and editing education material.
- Attend and participate in local college/university Title IX/IPV prevention efforts (IVRA @ Clemson University, Health Fairs, Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Awareness Month events, etc.)
- Monitors and updates downloadable content based on curriculum changes.
- Completes appropriate documentation compiling reports and statistics (student evaluation/facilitator check-ins, etc.) as required
- Participates in Safe Harbor staff meetings, team meetings, training, and continuing education.
- Performs other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor to aid in Prevention efforts and to support the overarching agency needs.
- Enthusiastically supports and models the mission and vision of Safe Harbor to peers, students, and the community.
- 60% travel across four counties with mileage reimbursement.
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required with relevant experience required.
- Knowledge of intimate partner abuse, and the dynamics of adolescent abuse preferred
- Experience with training and facilitation of small and large groups with diverse populations.
- Excellent communication skills: verbal and written. Public speaking experience preferred.
- Experience with engaging and empowering youth, knowledge of youth culture and trends.
- Must work well independently and with a team. This position works primarily outside of an office setting (from home and in community-based settings). Candidates must display and possess a high level of initiative, integrity, and dedication for this position.
- Ability to relate to others in an empathetic, non-judgmental, and supportive manner.
- Possession of a valid SC Driver’s License and/ or reliable transportation for work-related travel.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some evening and weekend hours.
- Bilingual skills preferred with consideration for additional compensation.
