JOB TITLE: Operations Manager

EXEMPT/NON-EXEMPT STATUS: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Plant Manager

DEPARTMENT: PULP

LOCATION: OHIO

SHIFT: 1st SHIFT

Summary: Responsible for the daily operations and general security of the facility. Directs and coordinates all activities to insure overall customer satisfaction, achieve established production targets and inventory objectives, overall customer satisfaction

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Manages the efforts of all employees to satisfy the customer by completing jobs as specified using established ISO work instructions, Lean Manufacturing principles, appropriate machinery and proper equipment within the allotted time.
  2. Trains and develops employees to establish and maintain an ethical, safe, lean, quality-conscious and customer-friendly environment through efficient manufacturing, cost-effective distribution, proper, safe and efficient machine operation, consistent first piece and in-process quality inspection, efficient yielding of raw materials, as well as consistent application of 5S standards across all areas.
  3. Acts as liaison between established customer representatives and internal support departments to insure customer satisfaction.
  4. Encourages team work while promoting a positive work environment and resolves problems in an efficient and timely manner. Enforces company policies and rules in verbal and written form as needed.
  5. Reports and documents emergency situations immediately to management.
  6. Monitors equipment operation to ensure production meets quality control standards and takes corrective action immediately as needed. Ensures equipment and machinery are properly maintained.
  7. Assists with quality control and remains accountable for results. Ensures first piece and in process inspections occur as required by established ISO guidelines.
  8. Conducts daily walk-thru and team meetings
  9. Ensures accuracy of daily time and attendance for all team member.
  10. Ensures all production demands are met from a scheduling / planning standpoint
  11. Process and flow of efficiency within manufacturing lines are being achieved and enforced through production Manager
  12. Oversees All shipping and Logistics of transfers / and outbound shipments to customers
  13. Oversees all inventory and warehouse levels to ensure product is being handled properly
  14. Works with customers and there demands of product from ordering to questions on items etc.
  15. Working with New design on tooling for future business, testing in production lines, tool design etc.
  16. Keeps a safe and organized working environment abiding by all OSHA regulations and enforcing this through the Production manager
  17. Tracks and watches labor to ensure we have the proper staff (not over staffed / understaffed) enforces through production Manager
  18. Ensures all new manufacturing lines are commissioned properly with SPM Team, new diagnostics of the machine and or new capabilities that can be implemented in our process to create an efficient running production line. Communicates and shares all information with Production Manager / Foreman.
  19. Ensures through Production Manager that all employees are keeping up with all expectations of the company’s policy as well as tracking / recording any issues that may arise from an ethical standpoint. Any terminations are to be made by both Plant manager and Production manager
  20. Ensures all and any emergency’s are properly taken care of
  21. Watches and looks at financials, daily / monthly to ensure we are making a return on investment and capitol for our shareholders
  22. Creates and establishes new contingency plans based off the current workforce for all future growth
  23. Orders and controls raw materials for paper and corrugated. Looking to source better quality at a cheaper price based off pulp / paper index and where the market is going
  24. Monitors and watches all production equipment ensuring all equipment is properly functioning
  25. Ensures all quality demands are being met for all customers
  26. Guides and train team to execute the plan in place that is given to them through team meetings and enforcement through production manager / Foreman

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; and four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Math Ability:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Outlook; Microsoft Word; Microsoft Excel; MAS 500 software; internet software; and manufacturing software.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, including dust and sawdust. The employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; risk of electrical shock and vibration.
