PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Accounting Senior will analyze and present information and support the team with data, systems, and processes related to the accounting function. Focus areas include financial reporting, revenue and compensation, month-end close, and internal controls. Attention to detail, careful self-review, and a hands-on, team-oriented, collaborative approach as well as enthusiasm for our mission are integral to this position.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the team with month-end close and reconcile assigned accounts and systems
  • Prepare presentations for the staff and board of directors and coordinate internal review and feedback on drafts
  • Support projects, as assigned for the team and the board of directors
  • Develop and maintain excellent working knowledge of major systems and be an escalation leader for internal inquiries
  • Demonstrate an aptitude for IT, data mining, working on dashboard reports, checking for accuracy in calculations, postings, and reports using the appropriate methods
  • Oversight of benefits and payroll systems/processing. Includes bi-weekly review and management of outsourced payroll firm, related system maintenance/monitoring, audit, compliance, accounting entries, budgeting, and forecasting. Ensure change management and data integrity across systems.
  • Oversight of customer contact with outsourced benefits consultant and payroll consultant for benefits and payroll related matters.
  • Maintain contract templates used by fundraising team to raise donations for Operation Warm, to ensure that all pricing and legal compliance is maintained
  • Help maintain internal controls by periodically evaluating the integrity of processes and updating their written procedures
  • Manage cash investments in compliance with the investment policy as approved by the board and maintain excellent working knowledge of investment status
  • Assist leadership and staff by interpreting, communicating, and implementing existing and emerging regulations applicable to Operation Warm
  • Collaborate with the team responding to internal and external customers
  • Contribute by being a team player and maintaining a culture of excellence
  • Identify and suggest improvements that could drive efficiency
  • Participate in recurring team and one-on-one meetings
  • Exercise judgement, tact, and diplomacy

  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and bookkeeping support required
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks Online, Salesforce, and/or enterprise systems a plus
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all members of the team as well as independently
  • Professional appearance and the attitude and personality to effectively deal with board members, donors, volunteers, and community members

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to travel occasionally if needed, both locally and nationally

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • 2-5 years in a public accounting firm
  • CPA preferred
