Position: 3pm to 12am, Monday-Friday

Department: Operations

Reports to: Production Manager

Location: Houston

Job Summary:

The Production Supervisor:

  • Provides direct leadership and supervision for all operators in the Houston site.
  • Oversees all site production processes, from raw material handling and production to drum packaging and bulk tanker shipping. and ensures compliance with shift instructions and SOPs (BOM’s, reactor cooks, blends, truck & drum loadout).
  • Ensures safety and environmental performance in accordance with corporate and local regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains appropriate focus on quality, production goals, and on-time shipments.
  • Implements and/or recommends improvements to improve plant efficiency.
  • Ensures operators complete required training and documentation and performs semi-annual employee performance reviews.
  • Assists employees in the troubleshooting and resolution of work-related issues and ensures regular and thorough communication to the Production Manager and Site Manager.
  • Provides input and recommendations to incident investigations and ensures follow-up action items are completed.
  • Supports the Production Manager to ensure proper staffing 24x7 and proper time accounting.
  • Supports planning and coordination of production downtime to allow maintenance and project execution as needed.
  • Identifies and drives continuous improvement initiatives in the Production areas, including housekeeping and hazard recognition.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Communicate, follow-up and ensure compliance with daily production plans, shift instructions and participate in daily shift meetings with crews (may require alternate working hours).

Training - issue & discuss training material with operators. Follow-up to ensure updating, understanding and compliance of SOP’s and hold operators accountable for maintaining skills/qualifications. With Production Manger and Process Engineer, update training material as needed.

Assist with and conduct annual operator performance reviews. Commend good performance and hold operators accountable for less than acceptable performance.

Conduct safety and housekeeping audits, leading the shifts to maintain and improve the standard.

Coordinate raw material and finished goods inventory management using FIFO, ensuring that accurate records are maintained of raw and FG usage to maintain accurate inventory. Ensure that operators verify raw materials are pre-staged and available prior to starting production.

During off hours, serve as incident commander as needed. Ensure investigation started, collecting information, permits, interviews with personnel, etc.

Knowledge and Skills: Specialized knowledge and skills needed to perform the job.

  • Strong leadership, supervisory, and interpersonal.
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to lead crews and improve performance.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Computer skills (SAP, Microsoft Office, DCS/PLC, etc.).
  • Knowledge/experience with process/mechanical equipment, DCS / PLC systems, piping, material handling equipment, heavy equipment etc.
  • Math skills (inc. weights, measures and conversions).
  • Process troubleshooting skill.
  • · Knowledge of OSHA/PSM, EPA, and other applicable codes and standards.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to work in an outside environment, climb stairs, wear a full-face respirator, and lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.

Education:

Associates degree and chemical manufacturing experience preferred. Minimum requirements include high school diploma or a minimum of 10 years manufacturing with supervisory experience.
