Summary of the Role
We are seeking a Senior Staff Accountant with 3-5 years of public accounting experience to work on-site in our Richmond office. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in tax preparation and assurance, excellent client service skills, and the ability to independently manage multiple projects. Key Responsibilities
Tax Preparation, Review and Planning:
- Prepare and review individual, corporate, and partnership tax returns.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Conduct detailed reviews of tax returns prepared by staff accountants.
- Provide tax planning strategies to clients to minimize tax liabilities and advise on tax implications of business decisions.
Assurance Services:
- Plan and perform audits, reviews, and compilation engagements.
- Assess and evaluate internal controls to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Identify and communicate audit findings and recommendations for improvements.
- Collaborate with clients to gather necessary financial data and documents.
- Prepare detailed audit reports and present findings to senior management and stakeholders.
Client Management:
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for client inquiries and concerns.
- Communicate proactively, clearly and effectively with clients to understand their needs and provide appropriate solutions.
- Understands engagement/project profitability and effectively communicates status/issues
Team Leadership and Development:
- Mentor, train, evaluate and provide feedback to staff accountants and interns.
- Delegate tasks effectively and ensure the completion of high-quality work.
- Provide regular feedback and conduct performance evaluations.
Operational and Technical Excellence:
- Identify, research and resolve technical issues in audit and tax engagements.
- Manage multiple projects and deadlines independently and efficiently.
- Act as “champion” in either technology area and/or specialized technical knowledge area.
- Identify and resolve issues that may impact engagement quality or efficiency.
- Share best practices and time-saving techniques with team members.
Qualifications
Experience
- At least 3-5 years of current experience in public accounting required, focusing on tax preparation and planning.
- Licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
- Proficiency in Ultra Tax, QuickBooks (desktop and online), Excel, AdvanceFlow, and GoFileRoom.

- Ability to adapt to new technology and stay current with changes.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment in order to meet multiple deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to independently manage multiple projects.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
