Administrative Accountant


The Mid-States Organized Crime Information Center (MOCIC) has an immediate opening for a full-time Administrative Accountant at its Springfield, MO, location. MOCIC offers an excellent benefit package, including medical, dental, a 401(k)-retirement plan, and life and disability insurance.  This is a non-exempt position.  MOCIC is an organization composed of member law enforcement and criminal justice agencies in the Midwestern United States working together to combat multi-jurisdictional criminal activities.  As one of the RISS Centers, MOCIC assists local, state, federal, and tribal criminal justice agencies by providing adaptive solutions and services that facilitate information sharing, support criminal investigations, and promote officer safety.


We are seeking an enthusiastic, adaptable, detail-oriented self-starter to support effective and efficient operations of our financial and business team.  If you like variety, this is the position for you.  Person will serve as an integral part of MOCIC who is capable of working independently and with others.  


Duties:   This hybrid (accounting and HR) position is a great opportunity for someone looking to further their career in accounting and gain valuable experience in a dynamic work environment. The primary duties of this position include:

  • Assists with accounting functions. 
    • Assists with budget preparation and maintenance.
    • Assists with grant preparation, submission, review and reporting.
    • Assists with financial entries, review and reporting.
    • Assists with entry and processing of accounts receivables.
    • Preparation and processing of account payables and travel expenses.
    • Purchasing and inventory including review of product options, entry of purchase orders and communication with vendors and staff.
    • Assist with maintaining inventory records.
    • Coordinates with appropriate vendors to facilitate day-to-day repairs and maintenance, as needed for building and grounds.
    • Position requires the ability to work with various departments, vendors and law enforcement members.
  • Assists with human resource duties.
    • Assists with the administration processes and maintenance of human resources documentation.
    • Assists with the onboarding and offboarding process and related administrative tasks.
    • Assists with administration of health and benefit plans, including enrollments, changes, and terminations.
    • Assists with development of and/or presentation of new hire and benefits orientations, employee recognition programs, training or other meetings related to human resources.
    • Routinely handles sensitive information and must maintain a high degree of confidentiality. 
    • Develops, coordinates and collaborates on staff and member events.
    • Occasionally involved with recruitment and interviewing process.
  • Position requires flexibility and the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Manage multiple projects and deadlines.  Position is project oriented.
  • Demonstrates ability to exercise initiative, independent judgment and be a self-starter who works with integrity while also being a strong team player.
  • Proficiency or ability to learn accounting, human resources and other related software.
  • Performs a variety of clerical duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, proofreading, mailing/shipping, filing, photocopying, answering phones, greets and screens visitors as needed. 


Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalency required. Prefer graduation from an accredited educational institution with an associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or a related major, or any equivalent combination of education and experience totaling at least four years. High degree of computer proficiency preferred. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the desired level of knowledge, ability, and skill may be considered. A personable and professional demeanor is required.  Excellent communication skills.  Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.


 Location/Hours: Located in Springfield, MO and office hours are normally 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Flex schedule is considered after completion of probationary period.  Flex schedule is dependent upon department needs and requires supervisor approval.  Any questions please contact hr@mocic.riss.net.
