SUMMARY: Under general supervision, leads crews in the cleaning, repairing, and maintaining Water and Wastewater (W/WW) infrastructure and facilities for Benbrook Water Authority (BWA).


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

  • Leading crews and assigning tasks to work crews involved in the cleaning, maintenance, and repair of BWA facilities, equipment, and infrastructure;
  • Identifying damaged or failing W/WW facilities and determining corrective action.
  • Utilizing specialized tools and heavy equipment to perform repairs, maintenance, and preventive maintenance tasks;
  • Collaborating and/or coordinating work efforts with other crews.
  • Assuring appropriate tools, equipment, and materials are at the job sites;
  • Preparing daily activity and summary reports; Ensuring proper documentation of assigned inventories and work activities;
  • Monitoring work sites and equipment to ensure compliance with safety protocols, safety rules and regulations are followed and to ensure all equipment is kept in safe operating condition.
  • Ensuring work is performed in accordance with BWA's and regulatory authority standards;
  • Training workers in the proper use of equipment and tools.
  • Regularly serving in an on-call status (rotation) and responding to after-hours emergency calls in accordance with Personnel Policies;
  • Supporting the relationship between Benbrook Water Authority and the public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and BWA staff; maintaining confidentiality of work-related issues and BWA information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • Reporting to work punctually, working all scheduled hours and required overtime when deemed necessary by the Supervisor. This position requires a minimum 40-hour work week.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge:

  • BWA policies and procedures.
  • Methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance and repair of W/WW equipment and infrastructure.
  • State and Federal regulations governing municipal utilities, and the treatment and transmission of water/wastewater; including Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) standards.
  • Geography, roads, and landmarks of City and surrounding areas.


Skill in:

  • Working independently to complete work projects according to work schedule.
  • Following and enforcing verbal and written instructions and procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing, including with the use of digital technology.
  • Utilizing digital technology to maintain electronic records (i.e. data input) and/or prepare reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND two years' experience in maintaining and repairing water distribution/wastewater collection systems, preferably with BWA; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.


LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION:

  • Must possess a valid Texas Commercial Driver's License.
  • Class C Water & Class II Wastewater Collection licenses from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) are required;


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed indoors and outdoors at BWA facilities and service locations throughout the City; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment; ability to lift and carry 80 pounds unassisted; ability to climb, stoop, kneel and crouch.
