Summary:

As a Lead supervisor, the position oversees the daily activities of the shift assigned and ensures policy adherence and safety standards to avoid stakeholder injury and loss of property. Where issues develop which require a more advanced decision, the supervisor seeks the guidance of the TMC Manager or Director of Operations.

Along with the technology and required competency assessments during employment, the TMC and its employees serve as a vital link to the preservation of human life and property by the timely and accurate understanding of policies and protocols, accurate and efficient dispatching, and proper notification escalations. Significant errors elevate the risk of injury and accidents along the corridor.

Relationships:
  • Works directly with TMC Manager, Director of Operations and all ITR departments when called upon 24/7/365.

Responsibilities:
  • Performs all tasks safely, complies with all internal and external safety requirements, supports ITRCC safety culture, attends all safety trainings and completes all compliance trainings as required by ITRCC.
  • Uphold ITRCC’s core values: Customer Service, Respect, Excellence, Stewardship and Teamwork (CREST).
  • The incumbent accepts an elevated level of stress during times of crisis along the ITR and must be able to rise above any situation within their authority and bring to a successful resolution.
  • Support efforts in operational excellence, strategic outlook and the annual safety first plan.
  • Has a significant influence in the outcome of traffic accidents and the way information is disseminated. Errors and omissions can prolong lane closures which increases revenue loss for the company and can impact ITRCC image and reputation.
  • Shift liaison between the TMC and the Indiana State Police (ISP) as well as neighbouring agencies and the INDOT TMC.
  • Acts as a primary end user for the ITRCC’s Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) such as Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), Portable Changeable Message Signs (PCMS), Closed Circuit Mainline Cameras (CCTV’s), and Wrong-Way Detection (WWD) Systems.
  • Employs certain tactics of the Traffic Incident Management System (TIMS) during times of roadway incidents. National Incident Management System (NIMS) completion within 90 days of hire.
  • Actively participates in the hiring process as well as performance reviews, disciplinary recommendations, and termination meetings along with completing timecards through ADP.
  • Provides insight and feedback during the annual budget and reforecast process.
  • Responsible for and/or assists TMC Manager with TMC metrics, updating policy, procedures and protocols, project facilitator between the TMC and other departments, Quality Initiative reporting (QI), Learning Management System (LMS) Coordinator and assist with radio asset management.
  • Works routinely with department management on employee engagements and competency testing to ensure policy compliance.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for TMC dispatchers on routine matters as well as emergency situations.
  • Shares in after hours on-call for the TMC on every other week rotation.
  • Participates in developing employee schedules, filling vacant shifts, and staff adjustments during special events and winter weather activities to ensure proper coverage and level of service.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma, with advanced education and courses preferred.
  • Knowledge in comparable industry; 5-7 years’ experience including supervisory experience within a Traffic Management and/or 911 Dispatch Center.
  • Ability to utilize and train ITS software to log potential and confirm incidents, construction, and maintenance lane closures.
  • Ability to hear and understand two radio channels simultaneously while conversing on the telephone.
  • Documentation, data entry, telephone, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work calmly and accurately under intense pressure.
  • Able to multitask under intense pressure.
  • Able to communicate across various levels of management.
  • Ability and flexibility to work a variety of shifts.

  • Working within a highly detailed, policy-oriented approach to responsibilities who can manage stress and complexity.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information in laymen’s terms; written and verbal.
  • Above average analytical skill set.
  • Experience working within a 24/7/365 day operation.
