Summary

The Temporary Laboratory Operations Associate in R&D Operations will work closely with leadership and team members to help establish and maintain compound management operations. This role will be accountable for establishing and executing SOPs and processes related to storage of inventory, preparation of samples for testing, and shipping/receipt of supplies/samples/compounds for internal/external assays. This role will support compound management activities across multiple departments and external CROs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contributing to establishing a seamless working interface between the Compound Management Group and other teams/departments (including Chemistry, Biology, DMPK and CMC) within the organization.
  • Direct and coordinate laboratory activities to ensure that services are provided on schedule within quality and cost objectives. Accountable for meeting timelines for compound requests and collaborating with scientists to facilitate compound request requirements. Provide compound management support high-throughput screens as needed.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve sample workflows associated with storage, manual neat/weigh operations, liquid handling, and delivery of samples to internal and external teams.
  • Manage compound inventory and responsible for the programming and operation of liquid handling equipment to facilitate compound distribution.
  • Test/Validate changes to software, hardware, and procedures. Proactively seek improvements to usability of these systems and production timelines.
  • Create and maintain SOPs and job aids for critical processes. Establish processes for replenishment of consumables.
  • Manage processes associated with international and domestic shipments between collaborators and research sites, ensuring proper documentation is maintained.
  • Assist in evaluation, purchase and installation of capital equipment for establishment of the compound management operation and implement plans for long term instrument certification and maintenance.
  • Establish/maintain a generative safety culture and ensure adherence to safety policies and adhere to site employee health and safety (EHS) requirements. Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Certifications, Experience

  • A BS or equivalent degree in chemical, biological, engineering sciences or related field with 5+ years working full time in a laboratory setting either in academia or industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with little to no supervision, work well in teams, and ability to adapt in a fast-changing environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and working familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Highly collaborative, self-motivated individual with a strong desire to learn and contribute.
  • Possess the ability to work with high attention-to-detail and strong record-keeping.
  • Possess the ability to complete work accurately in a timely manner.
  • Must be detailed oriented and consistent in experimental approach.
  • Motivated team player with the ability to work in a multi-functional team environment.
  • Experience with laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Experience maintaining an inventory of neat and solubilized samples.
  • Experience with inventory management systems, Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)/Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN).
  • Experience shipping/receiving both internationally and domestically.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
