Job Title: Shelter Staff - Neighborhood Ambassador

Department: Houseless Intervention Services

Reports to: Team Lead Supervisor

Salary Grade/Level/Family/Range: $25.46

Effective Date: 27-Mar-24

FLSA Classification: Non-exempt

Job Summary: The Shelter Staff - Neighborhood Ambassador is responsible for maintaining a safe and clean environment for shelter staff and participants. Requires a willingness to lead, take charge, and offer opinions and direction. Mitigates the site’s impact on the surrounding community through positive engagement with community members. Duties and Responsibilities are used in revising or developing performance review objectives for employees.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Security and Outreach
    1. Perform perimeter checks and walks hourly, ensuring safety of the site.
    2. Ensure the quality and cleanliness of facilities
    3. Maintain the gate shack/door/check in area and monitor for potential security threats, hazards, or unauthorized activity
    4. Report any incidents or safety concerns about the perimeter to their direct support
    5. Engage with those outside the boundaries of the site
    6. Intervene in potential conflicts or disturbances in the vicinity of the shelter
    7. Provide information about available shelter services, resources, and support programs
    8. Collaborate with local law enforcement, if necessary, to address external security concerns
  • Facilities
    1. Maintain safe environment for shelter staff and participants.
    2. Maintain effective communication with all program staff.
    3. Ensure that all areas utilized by shelter participants and staff are clean, organized, and left in an orderly manner during and after each shift. This may include, but not limited to, cleaning waste, soiled clothing, dirty dishes, etc.
    4. Recording daily site notes, detailing the events of your shift so the next shift can reference back for consistency.
  • Staffing
    1. Arrive to scheduled shifts on time, take a full lunch break, and work the entire shift.
    2. Attend supervision, staff meetings & any appropriate community professional meetings.
    3. Meet participant needs as necessary.
    4. Attend and participate in all outlined trainings as directed by the training and safety manager and site leadership.
    5. Participate in daily crossover meetings.
    6. Communicate with Behavioral Health Specialist and additional wrap around team members with pertinent information.
    7. Complete assigned projects as requested/assigned.
    8. Answering phone calls.
    9. Adhere to all state and federal privacy and security regulations applicable to the program, and to All Good Northwest, hereinafter referred to as The Company’s policies and agreements regarding confidentiality, privacy, and security.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Required Experience:

  • 1-2 years’ experience working with vulnerable populations and/or lived experience, or at least 6 months’ experience at All Good Northwest working at least 20+ hours a week.
  • Direct support services or caregiving experience or outreach work.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or another related field (Preferred).
  • Other relevant certification or training.
  • Lived experience.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Understanding of Housing First and Harm Reduction models.
  • Professional maintenance of appropriate boundaries.
  • Being open to change (positive or negative) and to considerable variety in the workplace.
  • Ability to effectively interact with co-workers and clients with diverse ethnic backgrounds, religious views, political affiliation, cultural backgrounds, lifestyles, and sexual orientations and treat each individual with respect and dignity.

Additional eligibility requirements:

  • Sufficient manual dexterity and physical ability to perform assigned tasks.
  • Must be able to work in a drug-free environment.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test as requested.

Work environment:

Working indoors and outdoors in heat and cold | Slippery and uneven walking surfaces | Working in close proximity to others | Exposure to offensive odors

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 50lbs | Bending, stooping, reaching | Sitting for extended periods of time | Standing and walking for extended periods of time

Travel required:

Occasional travel to and from other work sites up to 5% of the time.
