We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Solution/Application Security Architect to lead the security efforts in designing, developing, and maintaining our applications. This role will focus on ensuring that all applications are secure, scalable, and performant, leveraging Azure Cloud services and integrating with our existing technology stack. The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders, developers, and other architects to embed security into every stage of the application lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough assessments of existing .NET and Python applications to identify security vulnerabilities and performance bottlenecks.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather detailed requirements and establish clear security objectives for application modernization projects.

  • Develop comprehensive design documents, including system architecture diagrams, data flow diagrams, and API specifications, with a focus on security.

  • Incorporate applicable NIST SP 800-53 controls into secure coding standards and best practices, ensuring that security is built into the application from the ground up.

  • Design scalable, secure, and high-performance applications leveraging Azure Cloud services such as Azure App Services, Azure Functions, and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).

  • Select the most suitable technology stack for each application to ensure optimal security, scalability, and performance.

  • Ensure that the development process adheres to Scrum Agile methodologies, including regular sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.

  • Embed security practices at every stage of the application development lifecycle to meet NIH/HHS/NIST security requirements.

  • Support the development of new systems and ensure seamless integration with the current application portfolio and Azure ecosystem.

  • Develop and execute comprehensive test plans, utilizing automated test solutions to ensure thorough coverage of all application user stories and acceptance criteria.

  • Conduct continuous monitoring and testing of applications to ensure functionality, security, and reliability.

  • Generate detailed test reports and address identified security defects promptly.

  • Provide comprehensive documentation for all custom systems, including user manuals and technical guides, to ensure effective utilization and maintenance by users and developers.

  • Conduct user training sessions to enhance the understanding and effective use of security features and practices within the applications.

  • Ensure that all applications undergo thorough security assessments and comply with NIH/HHS/NIST security requirements.

  • Provide necessary artifacts and participate in security interviews, developing and completing a Plan Of Action and Milestones (POA&M) for any security findings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Minimum 7 years proven experience as a Solution/Application Security Architect or similar role.

  • Extensive experience with Azure Cloud services, including Azure App Services, Azure Functions, and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).

  • Strong knowledge of secure coding standards and best practices, including familiarity with NIST SP 800-53 controls.

  • Experience with Scrum Agile methodologies and DevSecOps practices.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders, developers, and other architects.

  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications in relevant areas such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP), or similar.

  • Experience with automated testing solutions and tools integrated with Azure DevOps.

  • Familiarity with other cloud services and technologies, including database management and data visualization tools such as Power BI and Tableau.

Compensation and Benefits

The projected compensation range for this position is $166,825 to $215,388 per year benchmarked in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Salary at LCG is determined by various factors, including but not limited to role, location, the combination of education/training, knowledge, skills, competencies, certifications, and work experience.
