Cleaver Brooks is looking for an experience Controls Engineer to join our team in Lincoln, NE. The Controls Engineer is responsible for coordinating instrumentation and controls engineering support and design efforts on basic projects following established policies and procedures. In this role, you will support the selection and design of all control components to meet the specifications of new control packages.

Job Location: Lincoln, NE

Basic Function: Responsible for coordinating controls engineering support and design efforts on major projects, and responsible for system integration for Boiler and Auxiliary Engineered Equipment and interface with Customer plant. This includes specifying control features for buyout engineered equipment, instrumentation and coordinating with process engineers and controls programmers to ensure controls system design to meet customer specifications; and providing technical support to project teams to ensure the goals and objectives of the project team are accomplished within the prescribed time frame and budgeted quotations.

Essential Duties:

1. Collaborate with functional groups to confirm project control philosophy and work with project engineers to specify buyout engineered equipment and instrumentation with control features in line with controls architecture.

2. Lead system integration efforts for boiler systems working with project engineers, suppliers and controls programmers

3. Assist operations with engineering support for panel fabrication and wiring

4. Lead all Factory Acceptance Tests for panels and Customer coordination efforts for tests

5. Carry out programming changes and modification as needed from FAT

6. Review Equipment supplier documentation to confirm purchase specification are followed, collaborate with Supplier & Project team to ensure requirements are met.

7. Responsible for Process and Instrumentation Diagram, Trim list and other Engineering deliverables for Controls group. Establish product design review schedules, such that compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements/specifications are met.

8. Review Engineering deliverables including but not limited to supplier / burner systems P&ID, system Architecture, single line diagram, Project Trim List, Utility requirement lists, Instrument index, SAMA and Control narratives, Logic diagrams, Alarm and Signal list, Electrical wiring specifications and diagram, Instrument hook up diagrams, Instrument data sheets in ISA and custom formats, and Machine monitoring systems.

9. Review PLC & DCS control systems architecture hardware, redundancy, SIL, voting logics as applicable for projects.

10. Review system layout for hazardous locations, Instruments/Motor access, maintenance & pull-out space requirements.

11. Assumes the leadership role on all projects and ensures compliance with ISO 9001 standards. Ensures engineering changes are performing in accordance with procedures.

12. Review project tagging scheme aligns with Customer requirement and ensure suppliers follow and adopted consistently in all controls documentation the tags migrate to.

13. Active Participation in Customer design reviews meeting for P&ID & HAZOP, controls review and ensure actions items are adopted and reflected in Engineering documentation.

14. Support field RFI’s for I&C group, collaborate with CB start-up technician to trouble shoot issues and defects, prepare redline and update documentation for Customer record.

15. Identify product design improvements that improve material/manufacturing costs.

16. Position requires regular exercise of decision-making, problem solving, and policy or procedure interpretation skills.

17. Ability to handle responsibilities with effective interpersonal skills and to effectively interface with others inside and outside the Company is required.

18. Must have the ability to travel occasionally, generally by air and utilization of a rental car. Estimated time away from office
