Job Title: Modeling and Simulation (M&S) Product Team Lead

Location: Colorado Springs, CO

Security Clearance: Must have DoD Secret clearance prior to start; highly desirable a current DoD Top Secret

Travel: Occasional domestic and foreign travel may be required

Position Summary: The Modeling and Simulation (M&S) Product Team Lead will be a key player in the C2BMC-G organization, supporting the Command and Control, Battle-Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program which serves the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and Space Force (SF) customers. The role will involve developing emulators, integrating 3rd party simulators, developing scenarios, and anchoring models and system behaviors.

As a secondary responsibility, the M&S Product Team Lead will contribute technical expertise to the co-located Experimentation Lab (X-Lab) organization within the C2BMC program. The candidate will work on a broad range of topics that will increase in scope and complexity over time. Key areas of focus will include sensor emulation, interface exchange behaviors, scenario development, and performance optimization.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and integrate modeling and simulation tools, including emulators and third-party simulators, for the C2BMC program.
  • Collaborate with C2BMC-G and X-Lab agile teams to understand and prototype Modeling and Simulation Tools, generating scenario datasets.
  • Utilize math, physics, statistics, data parsing, plotting, and database techniques to create Algorithm Description Documents (ADDs) and reference implementations.
  • Commit reference implementations to Git repositories for version control and develop unit tests, preferably using Cucumber scenarios.
  • Apply DevSecOps principles to maintain nightly pipelines for automated testing and continuous integration of algorithm implementations.
  • Provide technical demonstrations and support for Agile sprints, including presenting to C2BMC-G Project Owners (POs) and the Release Train Engineer (RTE).
  • Mentor junior engineers on the M&S IPT and contribute to the completion of stories within the M&S IPT Backlog in JIRA.
  • Represent the organization in Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs) and interface with both internal teams and external stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Mathematics, or a related Science/Engineering discipline, or equivalent experience, with 9 years of professional experience; or 7 years with a related Master’s degree.
  • Strong foundation in mathematics and physics, including probability and statistics, linear algebra, and calculus.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB or similar languages (Python, Perl, Bash, Mathematica, JavaScript, etc.) for prototyping, data visualization, scripting, parsing, and functional programming.
  • Experience in developing and working with mathematical models, algorithm engineering, and systems/software engineering processes.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in Monte Carlo analysis, statistical regression, and machine learning techniques.
  • Familiarity with modeling and simulation of large complex systems, as well as Verification & Validation (V&V) testing of software systems.
  • Experience with the C2BMC mission, Missile Defense domain, or Space Domain Awareness domain.
  • Knowledge of Agile software development processes and distributed application environments coded in Java, C++, or other Object-Oriented languages.
  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix development environments, Git, Bitbucket, Jenkins/Hudson, Jira, Cucumber, Confluence, Twiki, and regular expressions.
  • Experience with topics such as radar signal processing, Kalman filtering, orbital dynamics, and state vectors and covariances.
