As a Building Performance Field Tech at CTI, you will assist a team that leverages the Company’s proprietary tax software to provide an accurate and efficient tax study with superior quality which maximizes business boosting benefits. Our roster of clients includes companies of all industries and sizes such as engineering, manufacturing, software, architecture, restaurants, wineries, and breweries.


WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

This is a part-time, contract (1099) position. We are looking for assistance with our 45L projects on an as needed basis. When submitting your resume, please include your requested hourly rate. We estimate the workload to be 1-3 projects per month.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

The Building Performance Field Tech (certified HERS and ENERGY STAR Rater) will play a crucial role in evaluating residential properties for energy efficiency to qualify for the 45L tax credit. This individual will run tests that include one or more of the following: Duct Leakage Test, Indoor Air Quality Test, Quality Insulation, Installation Verification, Minimum Airflow, Refrigerant Charge, Low Leakage Air Handler, EER, etc. The HERS Rater/CEA must be able to work independently, setting their own schedule while meeting the needs of our clients. The ideal candidate will be proactive and deadline driven.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Schedule and perform on-site inspections of buildings under construction or renovation, assessing energy efficiency features such as insulation, windows, air sealing, mechanical systems, plumbing systems, lighting, and appliances.
  • Communicate with project representatives during inspections.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests, including blower door tests, duct leakage tests, and ventilation tests in single-family and multifamily buildings at different stages of construction or renovation to evaluate building performance.
  • Provide detailed documentation and reports on inspection findings, including potential energy efficiency upgrades. Ensure all documentation and reporting meet regulatory requirements and company standards.
  • Verify compliance with ENERGY STAR certification standards and other relevant energy efficiency requirements.
  • Manage and complete the ENERGY STAR Rater Design and Build Checklist for each project to ensure all requirements are met before certification.
  • Provide detailed reports and documentation for each project, supporting the 45L tax credit eligibility.
  • Use specialized software for energy modeling and generate HERS Index scores.
  • Stay updated on energy codes, standards, and best practices in energy efficiency.
  • Coordinate with other staff to complete testing of large projects.
  • Stay up to date on the progress of all projects, managing numerous projects simultaneously.

EXPERIENCE:

  • HERS Rating: 2-year minimum.
  • Experience in ENERGY STAR residential programs and familiarity with the 45L tax credit requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with diagnostic tools, such as blower doors and thermal imaging cameras.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Certified HERS Rater with current RESNET accreditation.
  • A Valid Driver's License and clear driving record is required.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to move up and down ladders and in attic spaces.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Outdoor conditions include non-conditioned buildings and standard office settings.
  • You must be able to move throughout a construction environment, including outdoors, in basements and crawl spaces, roofs and other uneven surfaces, and in unfinished or unfloored attics.
  • Climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, and standing is required.
  • The noise level in the work environment ranges from a quiet office setting to potentially high-noise conditions in outdoor areas.
  • Preferred location: Houston.
  • Amount of Travel Required: Over 50%.
  • This individual will cover projects outside of California.
