Summary

The Director of Features Creative (Creative Development) at Legendary Entertainment will be responsible for identifying, developing, and shepherding potential feature film projects. This includes evaluating potential projects, providing creative input, and collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure the successful development of high-quality films. The role requires a keen eye for storytelling, a deep understanding of the film industry, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. The Director will report directly to the Head of Film.


Responsibilities

  • Read and evaluate spec scripts, sample scripts, directing samples, and source material (i.e. books/manuscripts, articles, comic books, remakes, video games) for project acquisition and development consideration and/or filmmaker hiring consideration. Write up coverage for the creative affairs department’s consideration in a timely fashion (overnight or same day on high-priority submissions)
  • Analyze libraries and content catalogs that Legendary is considering acquiring
  • Read and analyze project drafts; perform draft comparisons; occasionally craft beat sheets and scene breakdown
  • Work with creative executives to generate notes and feedback on project drafts
  • Conduct thorough research to support Legendary projects when required
  • Oversee and manage the submissions log, ensuring that assistants input data accurately and promptly from their respective submissions
  • Collaborate with directors, writers, and producers to align the creative vision of projects.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and emerging talents to identify potential opportunities for Legendary
  • Mentor and guide junior creative team members and assistants
  • Build and maintain relationships with outside sources, the creative community, and internal creative counterparts
  • Identify talent through traditional and non-traditional research methods, inclusive of new and emerging technologies
  • Pitch projects internally for development consideration
  • Develop and shadow projects under the guidance of senior executives
  • Act as liaison between various departments to streamline the flow of information
  • Ensure projects align with Legendary’s vision and brand
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Film, Media, or a related.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience as a Creative Executive in theatrical film development and streaming.
  • In-depth experience working with talent (writers, directors, producers, actors).
  • Ability to assess strong storylines and marketability. An understanding of global and multicultural audiences and how to adapt content to appeal to a wide audience.
  • Deep understanding of the film development process and industry trends.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with industry professionals.
  • Experience in managing and mentoring creative teams.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to be resourceful and proactive in problem-solving.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Strong multitasking, time-management, and prioritization skills.

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $85,000 to $105,000. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. Total rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. Legendary Entertainment also provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, employee wellness programs, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, year-round paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO).


The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, market demands and indicators, specific and unique skills or training, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the geographic location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The hiring salary range is for this position applies to New York City and California.
