Position Objective:

The Grassroots Advocacy Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining a multistate grassroots program that supports the Leagues' policy goals in Nevada and California. The Manager will build, strengthen, and manage a network of credit union leaders who will engage with elected officials on issues that impact credit unions in our states. The Manager will work with internal teams, external stakeholders, and members to ensure a coordinated and effective grassroots advocacy program.

Position Description

1.Grassroots Advocacy Engagement and Programs

  1. Build a grassroots structure that can withstand the ever-changing advocacy landscape in our States.
  2. Championing grassroots efforts for maximizing credit union political influence.
  3. Interface with the League's networks to promote advocacy engagement and recruit new political professionals.
  4. Plan and facilitate annual regional organizing meetings to update member credit unions on elections and legislation.
  5. Work with the Advocacy team to organize Advocacy workshops in California and Nevada
  6. Operate and maintain the League's "Connect for the Cause" grassroots database, including necessary efforts to: (1) retain and increase credit union participation, (2) issue calls to action, and (3) enhance ease of engagement by member credit unions.
  7. Operate and maintain Project Zip Code, including necessary efforts to: (1) retain and increase credit union participation, (2) work with the Credit Union National Association on necessary updates.
  8. Develop and assist local credit union grassroots advocacy groups, including the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and Orange County.
  9. Assist in the administration of the Volunteer Leadership Group on recruitment and group activities.
  10. Speak to audiences including, but not limited to, credit union employees and event attendees.
  11. Represent the Leagues and support the Advocacy team and leadership at key advocacy events like the California and Nevada Government Relations Rallies, Government Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C., and other potential meetings of credit union membership.

2. Political Action Support

  1. Develop grassroots programming that compliments PAC events in California and Nevada.
  2. Support other PAC activities as assigned

  1. Work with internal teams to write articles for various League communications and draft correspondences, including social media posts.
  2. Direct grassroots advocacy projects and collaborate effectively with other associates to produce the highest quality results for members.
  3. Track and report on grassroots activity to ensure goals are met.
  4. Monitor legislative and regulatory activity to identify potential advocacy opportunities.
  5. Provide strategic guidance to the Leagues' leadership on grassroots advocacy issues.

Skill Requirements

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships.
  • Familiarity with and/or participation in social media communities and database management.
  • Ability to interface with all levels of professional staff and volunteers.
  • Goal-orientated, strategic thinker.
  • Media and campaign skills

Preferred Experience

Previous work experience with a political campaign, district office for an elected official, or a credit union (business development/community outreach) is highly desirable.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree or comparable experience, or 3 or more years of equivalent experience.
