Responsibilities
- Play an integral role as a business partner responsible for all aspects of human resources management for a dedicated Metro Supply Chain customer.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of HR programs that support the strategic plans of the business unit and Metro Supply Chain.
- Support the operations leadership team to achieve their business goals and to grow their leadership skills.
- Provide expertise on all human resources matters, including employee relations, performance management and organizational development.
- Play an integral role in recruitment, onboarding, HRIS maintenance, HR metric tracking, file maintenance, and health and safety programs.
- Is accountable to ensure the business unit’s needs are met through appropriate involvement and collaboration with the operations team.
- Adapt quickly to change, maintain a corporate culture of excellence and implement decisions based on Metro Supply Chain's core values.
- Use knowledge of HR best practices and superior communication skills.
- Provides leadership and consultation to management in the areas of employee relations, performance management, salary and performance review, corrective action and documentation, recruitment and selection, coaching and development, and policy and legislation awareness.
- Ensures the maintenance of a positive employee relations climate through the development of policies and programs to improve employee satisfaction; the implementation of activities to assess climate and culture; the promotion of inclusive communication practices; and the resolution of employee issues through the effective use of open door and investigation and counseling techniques.
- Advises on legislative changes and trends in HR; ensures legal compliance with all relevant provincial employment legislation and HR policy; and ensures consistent and fair policy and practice application.
- Actively participates in the department’s strategic plan by providing input and consultation on HR issues.
- Manages the recruitment, orientation, and training planning processes within the established budget to ensure the appropriate level and quality of resources are in place.
- Ensures selection, transfer, and promotion processes are in place; develops cost-effective recruitment strategies; counsels managers on selection and total compensation issues; identifies significant issues/trends and recommends changes as needed.
- Develops, sources, and delivers training programs and provides advice and resources on training, education, and career development options. Conducts training needs analysis where appropriate and ensures the tracking of all training and developmental activities.
- Ensures effective and efficient administration in the areas of employee records and HRIS; WCB claims management; compensation, benefits and pensions; and other employment programs.
Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred and a minimum of 5 – 7+ years’ experience in an exempt leadership position in a distribution or manufacturing setting.
- PHR or SPHR designation preferred.
- Proven track record in HR management, with a deep understanding of California employment laws, best practices, and HR technologies.
- Strong ability to lead and inspire a team, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Flexibility and resilience in a fast-paced, evolving work environment.
- Able to work normal and/or extended (evenings, nights, and weekends) office hours to meet established deadlines.
- Able to travel independently to support Company objectives and personal development.
- Works in an office environment at a computer 80% of the time.
- Works on the warehouse floor 20% of the time walking and standing.
