Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly effective and professional Telecommunicator to join our Security Operations Center (SOC) team. As a Telecommunicator, you will play a critical role in ensuring effective communication and coordination between our security personnel and community public safety partners. Your ability to handle high-stress situations with a calm and controlled demeanor, operate communication equipment, and accurately relay information is vital to the success of our operations.

Job Objective:

The primary objective of the Telecommunicator position is to provide efficient and effective communication support within our Security Operations Center. You will be responsible for receiving incoming calls for assistance, operating communication equipment, and relaying instructions and information to appropriate personnel. Your attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and proficiency in documentation and record-keeping will contribute to the overall success of our security operations. By maintaining a professional and positive attitude, you will ensure the highest level of service and support to our team and the individuals we serve.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Maintain effective and professional communication with a positive attitude.
  • Handle high-stress situations and calls in a calm and controlled manner.
  • Operate communication equipment, such as telephone systems and two-way radios, to receive incoming calls for assistance and dispatch appropriate personnel.
  • Engage in effective questioning techniques to determine the nature of callers' problems or complaints.
  • Relay accurate instructions and information to responding personnel using phone and radio systems.
  • Utilize computer systems and dispatch software programs to enter and retrieve information for efficient coordination.
  • Maintain accurate and legible records by writing in handwritten logs, complaint forms, patrol logs, etc.
  • Monitor the activities of officers in communities, on mobile patrol, and on construction sites.
  • Establish radio contact with officers in the field to ensure their safety.
  • Assist with internal and external investigations by obtaining requested video footage or photos as directed by Weatherspoon Senior Management.
  • Operate multi-site video systems to monitor and report various types of activities.
  • Document incidents or issues using report input systems for reporting to Weatherspoon Senior Management, Property Managers, Investigators, etc.
  • Attend company meetings, training sessions, and Zoom calls as scheduled.

Competencies and Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with callers, personnel, and emergency responders.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in high-stress situations and handle emergency calls with professionalism and empathy.
  • Proficient in operating communication equipment, including telephone systems and two-way radios, to receive and relay information accurately and efficiently.
  • Strong typing skills and familiarity with computer systems and dispatch software programs.
  • Exceptional attention to detail to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment, ensuring timely and appropriate response to incidents.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills to assess situations, gather relevant information, and provide appropriate instructions to responding personnel.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and effectively interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of security protocols and procedures, emergency response processes, and relevant laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in utilizing video surveillance systems and other monitoring tools to report and document activities.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
  • Adaptable and flexible, with the ability to adjust to changing priorities and operational needs.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug and background screening
  • Registration with the NCPPS Board, meeting all necessary requirements.
  • Punctuality, responsibility, and dedication as a valued team member.
  • Proficient reading, speaking, and writing skills in the English language.
  • Excellent teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Pay Grade 1

$13.50-$15.50 Per Hour

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • The position may require sitting for extended periods while operating communication equipment and monitoring systems.
  • Occasional standing or walking may be necessary to access equipment or communicate with colleagues.
  • The work environment primarily consists of an office setting within the Security Operations Center, which may include exposure to various security monitoring systems and equipment.
  • The Telecommunicator may work in a fast-paced and high-stress environment, handling emergency calls and coordinating responses.
  • The position may require working on a rotating shift schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to ensure 24/7 coverage.
  • The role may involve exposure to confidential or sensitive information, requiring strict adherence to confidentiality protocols.
  • The Telecommunicator must adhere to relevant safety protocols and guidelines to ensure personal and team safety.
