Position Overview:

The backup shift Leader, Manufacturing leads and assists shift leader/ team/shift while monitoring production quality and output, assisting with machine/mold needs, and ensuring safety and compliance on the plant floor. In the absence of the Shift Leader, able to take care of day-to-day duties on shift. When not in Shift Leader authority; provide feedback to Shift Leader and assist in directing the Team on the following:

Essential Functions:

  • Direct and monitor activities in the production area
  • Coach, Evaluate, train, and motivate assigned personnel
  • Ensure that productivity and quality are optimum compared with asset expenditure
  • Ensure compliance with prescribed safety standards
  • Ensure compliance with prescribed housekeeping standards
  • Interpret and implement the production schedule
  • Inspect product quality a minimum of every two hours and record the action on the respective In-Process Inspection Log.
  • Distribute work order packages to their respective workstations as necessary.
  • Inspect the first production piece and record the action on its respective First Piece Inspection Tag.
  • Ensure each worker and workstation possesses all of the tools required for safe and effective performance.
  • Perform additional functions as directed by managers.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes – will lead team/shift of 30 or fewer employees and Contract To Hire/Seasonal

Qualification Requirements:

  • Minimum of 1 year’s prior production leader experience, plastics manufacturing setting preferred
  • Minimum of a high school diploma; technical or relevant degree preferred
  • MS Office and intermediate computer skills required
  • Organizational, motivational, and leadership abilities
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
