Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Horticulturist to join our team. As a Horticulturist, you will be responsible for cultivating and maintaining plants, flowers, trees, and shrubs in various settings such as gardens, farms, greenhouses, and landscapes. Your expertise in horticulture will contribute to creating beautiful and thriving outdoor spaces.

Essential Functions

  • Supervise and coach all employees assigned to grounds with the Maintenance manager.
  • Manage all planting operations, including maintenance, deliveries, planting schedules, inventories, future growing opportunities, and perennial and annual gardens.
  • Strong knowledge of local plants, planting materials, and horticulturally proper maintenance practices.
  • Good understanding of irrigation systems and programming, insect/disease identification and treatment, and appropriate pruning practices.
  • Collaborating with the Executive Chef to cultivate our Farm to table experience to include fruits, vegetables, herbs, florals
  • Animal Care: Help the team manage and care for livestock (chickens, Llamas, sheep, goats, mules), including feeding, egg collection, and maintaining living conditions.
  • Maintain estate landscaping, including gardens, ponds, lawns, hardscapes, containers, lighting, etc.
  • Manage relationships with dairy farmers and existing vendors
  • Design seasonal estate dcor and ensure executed
  • Administrative responsibilities include payroll approvals, invoice processing, attending meetings, staff accountability, producing reports, maintaining budget guidelines, vendor management competitive bids, etc.
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • High school or equivalent
  • Proven experience as a maintenance manager, with a minimum of 5 years of general maintenance experience and farm experience as a bonus.
  • Working knowledge of facilities, machines, and equipment

Job Type:
Full-Time: Must be able to work a varied schedule, including AM, Mid, and PM shifts, weekdays, weekends, holidays

Supervisory Responsibility:
This position manages all department employees and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.

Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional hospitality environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
