Job DescriptionJob DescriptionThe Director of Production is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day production operations of the field inclusive of engineering, well performance, value optimization, and planning for P&A, repair, and workover operations while executing safely, within regulation, and Collaborating closely with the VP of Operations, they ensure cost-effective operations aimed at optimizing lease income. Additionally, the Director of Production will report daily production volumes and monthly operating costs and manage regulatory reporting to state and federal agencies. This role will also evaluate the cost-effectiveness of on-pad surface production facilities for safety and contract compliance. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Operations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Team Supervision and Management:
    • Supervise production engineering staff
    • Supervise field production superintendents
    • Manage staff to analyze, interpret, and optimize well performance
    • Oversee identification and justification of potential well repairs and workovers
    • Coordinate artificial lift enhancements, including plunger lift
  • Regulatory Compliance and Communication:
    • Ensure compliance with State and Federal regulatory production reporting
    • Serve as an active leader and point of contact for regulatory agencies
    • Track and monitor Financial Assurity for well bonding decisions
  • Documentation and Financial Management:
    • Ensure accuracy of well files, both electronic and hard copy
    • Monitor direct operation costs and compare to budgets
    • Prepare annual direct operating budgets
    • Track and monitor 3rd party Joint Interest Billing
  • Operational Monitoring and Improvement:
    • Monitor well downtimes and production volumes
    • Diagnose production problems and identify corrective actions
    • Identify production bottlenecks and underperforming equipment
    • Identify areas for production enhancements and cost reductions
    • Maximize utilization of well assets, equipment, pipelines, compressors, etc.
    • Develop and execute Artificial lift strategy and plan
    • Assist in maximizing daily production and ultimate recovery of producing properties
  • Coordination and Cooperation:
    • Enhance and grow a collaborative culture between field operations and corporate operations
    • Assist production engineering staff in preparing cost estimates and economic justifications for workover projects
    • Plan and coordinate well repair, workover, recompletion activities, and facility and construction operations
    • Manage TA/P&A program for wells
    • Collaborate closely with reservoir engineers and other disciplines
    • Collaborate with all company employees, contractors, and local service companies
Supervisor Duties
  • Establish clear goals and objectives for the production team, providing direction, feedback, and purpose for their efforts.
  • Develop strategies, plans, and schedules for achieving objectives.
  • Participate in recruitment efforts, conducting interviews, and making hiring decisions.
Qualifications
Education
  • A minimum of a B.S. in petroleum, mechanical, or chemical engineering from an ABET-accredited institution is required
  • An advanced degree in petroleum engineering, business administration, or a related field is preferred
Specialized Knowledge
  • A thorough understanding of economic analysis and objective economic decision-making under conditions of uncertainty
  • Knowledge of well optimization techniques, including workovers, recompletions, and technology of artificial lift methods including plunger lift and gas lift
  • Knowledge of production processing and surface facility design, operation, and maintenance
  • Ability to work in a multi-discipline team environment where technology and individual responsibility are emphasized
  • Working knowledge of Aries, WellView, ProdView, Cygnet, IHS, and the MS Windows Office Suite

Professional Certification
  • Professional registration is preferred
  • Current well control certificate
Experience
  • Minimum of 15+ years’ of technical work-related experience
  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience managing and leading a production engineering and field teams
Working conditions
  • Normal office environment and outdoor field environment
  • This position requires frequent, regular travel to the field
