The Village of Itasca is seeking qualified candidates to fill a full-time Utilities Division Category III position in the Public Works Department. Under the general supervision of the Public Works Director, the Category III position performs the following work in the Utilities Division. Regular hours are 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, Monday - Friday.
Significant Responsibilities
· Act as the Lead Worker of the Utilities Division.
· Maintain the required willingness to respond to emergency calls twenty-four (24) hours a day seven (7) days a week. A minimum of 80% utility emergency response rate is required.
· Learn, practice and portray all village safety procedures/practices and equipment.
· Skillfully operate the tools, vehicles, and equipment used in all aspects of utility work.
· Establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with co-workers, other Village employees, and the general public.
· Operate computer software that is related to the utility department such as excel, word, ArcGIS, and asset management software.
Essential Duties
· Utilize proper PPE and complete proper safety documentation forms on all jobs
· Possess knowledge of village policies and procedures and instruct others in accordance with them.
· Calculate the amount of materials needed and install in accordance with village procedures.
· Perform general field calculations needed to calculate slopes of storm pipes and new structure installation elevations.
· Oversee the completion of the Village’s contracted maintenance programs.
· When necessary, respond to and manage emergency events including but not limited to water main failures, sanitary sewer back-ups, storm water flooding, J.U.L.I.E. locates, and snow plowing.
· Respond to work orders concerning customer services and/or complaints such as low water pressure, high water bills and faulty meters. Determine the cause, the extent of the Village’s responsibility, and perform repairs.
· Organize and prioritize asset management work orders. Schedule manpower and materials to complete them.
· Visit multiple potable water sites and lift stations to take readings on pumps and check chlorine residual.
· Assist with other public works activities such as snow removal and street repair projects when required.
Starting Wage
The wages for this position are as established in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Village of Itasca and the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 150. The current FY 2025 hourly range for this position is $32.90 – $46.99.
Requirements:· High school diploma or GED required.
· Must possess a class “D” IEPA water license and a willingness to work towards a class “C” IEPA license if one is not currently held.
· Must possess a valid class “B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with an air brake and tanker endorsement.
· Possess NASSCO PACP, LACP, and MACP certification or have the ability to obtain it within one (1) year.
Required Abilities
· Requires two years’ experience in the repair and maintenance of water distribution lines and/or related components.
· Requires working knowledge of the care and use of the tools, vehicles, and equipment used in utility maintenance and repair.
· Requires working knowledge of water system repair procedures and techniques.
· Requires the ability to follow verbal, written instructions and take notes in the field when necessary.
· Requires the ability to work independently and efficiently.
· Requires the ability to work outside under inclement weather conditions such as rain, snow and extreme heat or cold.
