WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) plays a crucial role in directing and overseeing the financial activities of the corporation. This includes overseeing the preparation of current financial reports and summaries while also creating forecasts for future growth. In addition to managing the day-to-day financial operations, the CFO is responsible for providing strategic financial leadership to ensure the company's long-term economic success.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Directs the preparation of all financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, shareholder reports, tax returns, and governmental agency reports.
  • Compares profit projections to actual figures and budgeted expenses to actual expenses; makes or oversees any necessary adjustments to future projections and budgets.
  • Review the planning process and suggest improvements to current methods.
  • Analyzes operations to identify areas needing reorganization, downsizing, or elimination.
  • Works with the CEO and other executives to coordinate planning and establish priorities for the planning process.
  • Studies long-range economic trends and projects their impact on future market share growth.
  • Oversees investment of funds and works with investment bankers to raise additional capital required for expansion.
  • Take responsibility (either directly or via staff) for all cash management, investments, insurance, budgeting, and financial reporting, and help drive the company’s financial strategy.
  • Coordinate the development of annual operating, capital, and program budgets, as well as report on them.
  • Ensure cash flow is compatible with operations by overseeing day-to-day accounting, recording, reporting, and internal-control activities of the organization
  • Develop and implement best practices and tools to ensure a well-controlled yet flexible organization that has strong fiscal management, project coordination, cross-team communications, and workflows
  • Comply with national and local financial requirements by studying existing and new legislation and taking appropriate action.
  • Work with senior managers to efficiently develop budget proposals, provide access to project finance information and ensure contract/grant compliance and reporting.
  • Research revenue opportunities and economic trends, analyze internal operations, and identify areas for cost reduction and process enhancement.
  • Perform risk management by analyzing company liabilities and investments and evaluating and managing capital structure and fundraising initiatives.
  • Monitor business performance with tracking tools, establish corrective measures as needed, and prepare detailed reports for earnings calls, the management team, and the rest of the company
  • Oversees Accounting department, budget preparation, and audit functions.
  • Works with other department heads to monitor each department and make recommendations.
  • Other duties as necessary


REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong knowledge, understanding, and sensitivity to Inupiat culture
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in database and accounting computer application systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance
  • Eight to ten years of experience in financial management


PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance
  • Certified Public Accountant designation a plus.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.


TRAVEL REQUIRED

  • Moderately frequent travel required
