Position Summary:


The Recovery Home Support Specialist will assist in overseeing the implementation of daily operations within the Wabanaki Public Health and Wellness Recovery Homes. This role is responsible for supporting a sober and safe home for residents in a manner that reflects Wabanaki Culture and Wabanaki Public Health’s mission.   This work is scheduled based on the needs of the specific recovery home, and resident’s needs.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Communicates effectively and appropriately with the Recovery Home Manager and the House Coordinator.
  • Works collaboratively with the residents and other treatment/recovery team members to develop support for residents for their treatment and recovery needs.  
  • Functions autonomously and uses appropriate judgement in problem solving of day-to-day issues that may arise in each specific home.  
  • Assists residents with scheduling, attending, and completing appointments related to treatment plans or health needs.  
  • Facilitates and helps implement daily schedules for recovery home, facilitates and supports planned activities, and assists in accessing, scheduling, and following up on treatment opportunities, or treatment plans.   
  • Implements health and wellness activities and other activities that promote healthy coping skills.  
  • Maintains weekly written documentation of progress made, policies, and resources needed. Uses email communications as needed.  
  • Accurately records client self-administration of medication. Communicates medication challenges in a timely and effective manner to the treatment/recovery team.  
  • Participate in house meetings or groups as scheduled.  
  • Works collaboratively with residents to strengthen their skills and ensure proper housekeeping standards are met.   
  • Conducts admissions and discharge procedures of residents.   
  • completes all documentation requirements needed for recovery homes.   
  • Participates in staff development and training, and meetings as required.  
  • Other duties, as assigned as it pertains to treatment and recovery for substance use disorder.


Education and Experience Required:


  • High School Diploma or GED and 5-years’ experience working with substance misuse disorder programming.   
  • Experience in developing/ supporting recovery homes.   
  • Knowledge and understanding of addiction.  
  • Certified Recovery Specialist preferred or eligible with in 6 months of hire. 
  • Training in Wellbriety and other indigenous recovery programs; or willingness to attend training.   
  • Experience with trauma informed services preferred.  
  • CRMA is beneficial but not required. 

  

Skills and Qualifications Required:


  • Effective interpersonal and engagement skills.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Self-directed and ability to deliver excellent customer service.  
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to support the organization’s mission along with sensitivity to cultural diversity. 
  • 3 years of recovery journey/sobriety.
  • Knowledge of local and statewide resources.
  • Facilitating of self-administered medication and documentation.
  • Willingness to travel; a good driving record and access to reliable transportation are required. 
  • Ability to work some holidays, nights, and weekends. 
  • Valid State of Maine Driver’s License, insurable under the WPHW’s automobile insurance plan. 
  • Use of life experience to engage individuals in crisis, assist individuals with engaging in services and supports, and development of an individualized recovery plan.
  • Play an advocacy role, provide transportation, and promote self-care, illness self-management, and wellness and recovery. 
  • The position requires a high level of professionalism and ethical behavior. Must be sensitive to diverse cultures and languages and foster the teamwork ethic 
  • Communicate effectively with peers, managers, and support staff. 
  • Maintain all documentation that is required in a complete and timely manner and comply with all HIPAA requirements. 
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
