THE ROLE
The Retention Specialist I helps people realize their academic goals by building strong relationships with students and helping them overcome obstacles that may prevent them from continuing their education. The Retention Specialist I will support students with a consultative approach, an ability to meet challenges head-on, and a passion for changing lives through high quality education.
This is a full-time, remote role.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support all continuing students from our partner schools
- Act as a liaison to at-risk students whether self-identified or campus identified,
- including assisting with the creation of supporting programs
- Act as a liaison for academic support services such as tutoring, library services, writing center, and distance learning support
- Assist campus in identifying trends and researching best practices in student retention
- Support the partner campus in new student advising and registration
- Help students identify resources and opportunities that will help them succeed within their academic program
- Utilize data to guide interventions and monitors effectiveness and student progress
- Make outbound phone calls and send texts and emails to engage students
- Document all activities related to student interactions in the student database
- Exercise discretion within process and follow all compliance guidelines
- Problem solve when concerns arise that impede a student’s ability to persist in school
THE REQUIREMENTS
- General knowledge of the college admissions and registration process
- Ability to establish rapport and build relationships with students
- Persistence coupled with a passion for education
- A proven track record of achieving measurable results in a fast-paced, deadline-driven department
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong ability in vocabulary and grammar
- Expertise in utilizing creative problem-solving skills to overcome student obstacles
- Basic computer and Excel skills
