Job Description
The Encore Boston Harbor Shift Manager – Security will be responsible for coordinating security activity, monitoring security staff and maintaining security protection for the property and company assets. The Manager will assist guests/customers and Team Members as needed, and shall be responsible to maintain order in both interior and exterior sections of the hotel. The Manager shall be responsible to maintain a safe and secure environment for guests and employees by enforcing security policies and procedures and properly supervising the Security Guard force.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures all Encore Boston Harbor core values and property and department standards are implemented and applied.
- Creates work schedules and assign Security staff to various posts and locations according to job requirements and the officer’s abilities, skills and experience.
- Observes the Security staff to evaluate and document their performance and correct any inefficiencies observed.
- Notify the Director of Security or his/her designee of significant events that require his/her attention or awareness whether he/she is on or off property.
- Notify executive management, law enforcement or corporate investigations whenever an incident requires it.
- Must possess outstanding organizational, interpersonal and administrative skills as well as excellent attention to detail.
- Ensures that all security reports are completed and submitted in a timely manner.
- Knowledgeable of local laws concerning arrest and detention of suspected criminals detained on property.
- Enforce progressive disciplinary measures on staff members as necessary.
Directly supervise Assistant Shift Managers and Supervisors.
- Maintain the dress code and appearance standards of all Department members and make immediate corrections when necessary.
- Due to the unpredictable nature of the hospitality/entertainment industry, this position must be able to work varying schedules, if necessary, to reflect the business needs of the company.
- Maintain relevant knowledge of the industry through continuing education and training.
- In all situations, ensure that Security staff members treat all guests in in a courteous and professional manner reflective of the Encore standards.
- Resolve incidents involving guests as well as employees.
- Analyzes security needs, estimates costs and presents proposals to the Director of Security.
- Manages short-and long-term departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates operational effectiveness; effects changes required for improvement
- Ensures department delivers and maintains a maximum level of property-wide service and satisfaction.
- Facilitates communication throughout the property by organizing and presiding over regularly scheduled meetings with team members within the department and with other departments as appropriate to ensure property wide communication.
- Manages multiple priorities simultaneously and meets deadlines, often in stressful and high-pressure situations.
- Must have the ability to promote positive, fair, and ethical relations with all team members and with all Encore contractors
- May interview and make recommendations for promotions.
- Works with safety as a priority, and follows department and company safety standards.

Age, Gaming and Certifications:
21 years of age or above.
Will be required to obtain and maintain a license issued by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.
Must be able to acquire and maintain any certification, licensing or active work cards required for this position.
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice or a closely related field or equivalent experience preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in law enforcement, military, hotel/gaming, loss prevention, special event or physical site security with 3 years in a supervisory capacity preferred.
Requires proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Candidate must have experience with planning and project management.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents, such as policy and procedure manuals, maintenance instructions, and other related documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries from other employees or guests. Fluency in English required, second language a plus. Ability to write detailed instructions and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is also regularly required to stand, walk and sit for long periods of time and use hands to utilize objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, and to sit, climb or balance, and stoop, stretch, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Essential responsibilities include moderate physical ability such as lift or maneuver at least fifty (50) pounds.

- The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate. When on the casino floor or in some back of house areas, the noise level increases to loud. Must be able to interact with internal and external guests in a professional manner.
