About KIPP TEAM & Family

KIPP TEAM & Family is our network office that includes support teams - such as Leadership Development, Recruitment, Advocacy, Facilities, Finance, HR and more - dedicated to empowering our schools and ensuring the success of KIPP students throughout New Jersey and Miami. Our schools are part of the nationally recognized “Knowledge Is Power Program” network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public schools dedicated to preparing students for success in college and in life. The first KIPP New Jersey school opened in Newark in 2002 and since then our school network has expanded to educate 8,135 students in grades K-12. By 2027, KIPP New Jersey will provide a world-class education to over 10,300 students across Newark and Camden. To learn more, visit www.kippnj.org.

In 2018, we grew our KIPP community in response to a need for high-quality school options for students in Greater Miami’s Urban Core communities. That led to the creation of KIPP Miami, which currently educates more than 1,000 students in four schools, with plans to reach 5,800 students by 2025. By offering highly effective educators with strong bonds to families, more time in school learning, services that support a variety of student needs, and a culture focused on achievement, our students in New Jersey and Miami are on the path to and through college, career, and choice-filled lives.

Job Description

Here’s what you need to know:

KIPP Miami is looking for an exceptional development leader to drive the fundraising needed for KIPP to provide thousands of children in Miami with a world-class education.  Specifically, the Director of Development will lead all fundraising efforts to raise $20 million over the next 7 years.  This is a Miami-based role that reports directly to KIPP TEAM & Family’s Chief Development Officer.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Build relationships with philanthropic partners (individuals, foundations and corporations) who embrace the work with you and have a passion for KIPP’s work and impact. Inspire our partners to be excited to do more and dig deeper; to give their time and wisdom and money to broaden our collective impact.
  • Set the vision and strategy to realize and exceed the annual development goals through individual gifts, foundation, corporation, and government grants, and events.
  • Actively lead the major gift process from acquisition to solicitation and customized acknowledgment that provides an exceptional donor experience that enhances giving and engages partners in KIPP Miami’s work and growth.
  • Manage the capital campaign consultant charged with assisting KIPP Miami launch and execute the campaign.
  • Manage relationships with board members to ensure their ongoing investment in our growth and increase their giving and support.
  • Lead the local team in executing the fundraising strategy and meeting annual fundraising goals.
  • Build best in-class systems to support KIPP Miami’s development work for years to come.

Here’s how you’ll do it:

  • Fundraising: At its core, understand that this work is essential to more kids in Miami getting an exceptional education and our current kids getting the best education we can provide.  Act with a commensurate sense of urgency to raise money and bring new friends and partners onto the team to drive ongoing development efforts.  Be creative and entrepreneurial to inspire our partners to do more and bring others to the work. Be comfortable making asks regularly, knowing that the investment really works.
  • Relationship building: Bring your authentic self to the work and share your passion for our impact with your partners. Develop deep, meaningful relationships with your partners that result in continuously increasing giving and broader networks of support.  Establish highly collaborative relationships with internal team members and staff to maximize your impact and ability to tell the KIPP story.
  • Communications: Serve as a highly visible ambassador for KIPP Miami in the community.  Inspire others to take action through exceptional writing and speaking about our mission, with a comfort for making solicitations. Synthesize and analyze data to simplify complex ideas about our impact through easy-to-understand and striking materials and messages. Demonstrate a high degree of comfort and poise with donors and board members.
  • Strategic Thinking: Devise innovative fundraising plans and mobilize partners and stakeholders to achieve our goals. Build sustainable plans to maximize giving, meet goals and significantly grow funding.

Here’s what we are looking for:

KIPP Miami is seeking a seasoned fundraising professional with experience in a dynamic non-profit environment. We are a small team with big goals. You must have strong relationship building skills and be an authentic and skilled communicator.  You understand the value of philanthropic partners and their role in strengthening KIPP Miami’s fundraising capabilities and have a track record of success.  You are comfortable managing all the stages of a major gift (identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship) and may have led a multi-year fundraising campaign previously. You are a self-starter, are highly goal-oriented, and can wisely manage your time, resources, and projects to exceed your goals.  You enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with like-minded individuals, and you are passionate about education and the success of students in Miami.

Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with a comfort for soliciting major gifts (five to six figure) frequently from partners
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook and Google Drive Suite
  • Experience with project and people management; comfort in directing others toward a common goal or outcome
  • Experience with CRM/Fundraising Software is preferred; experience with Raiser’s Edge is a plus
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills with keen attention to detail
  • Ability to manage projects and people – whether that’s managing up, managing direct reports or managing laterally on collaborative projects
  • Comfortable working with a virtual team and manager, while driving the work on the ground and reporting back to the team about key efforts.

Must Haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ Years fundraising experience with major gifts (five to seven figure gifts)
  • Ability to work on occasional evenings and weekends (required for events)
  • Ability to travel to school locations and move around school buildings
  • Periodic travel to New Jersey will be required.
  • Experience raising funds in the Miami area is preferred.
