Job Summary:
Operates medium sized equipment, including flat-bed or tandem dump trucks, mowing machines (bush hogs/boom tractors), paving and milling equipment (paving machines, milling machines and rollers) and performs manual labor in the maintenance and/or repair of County property and facilities.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: (All incumbents may not perform all duties)
- Operates flat-bed or tandem dump trucks to transport materials or haul brush/debris, gravel, asphalt, etc.
- Operates mowing machines - including bush hogs and boom tractors to cut grass, cuts down dead trees, cuts overhang and slope areas on county roads.
- Performs basic maintenance on paving equipment, dump trucks, and mowers / boom tractors including washing, changing oil, greasing, checking fluids, sharpening blades, changing cutting teeth and changing flat tires.
- Hall County employees may be required to oversee a work detail of inmates from the Correctional Institution, assuring their safety and security at all times.
- Operates and performs semi-skilled labor such as operating paving machines, milling machines, rollers and / or concrete work with looping / shovel work.
- May operate a pilot truck when assigned to litter control.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required:
Education and Experience:
- CDL A or B Required
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- One year Equipment Operator I experience required.
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the minimum level of qualifications stated above.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Class B Driver's License (depending on assigned vehicle) and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
- POST Certification required.
- Due to the safety-sensitive nature of this position, incumbents will be subject to random drug testing.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of geography of the County, including major roads and landmarks.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures.
- Knowledge of traffic rules and regulations and safe operation of heavy trucks and equipment.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of, and skill in, operating various types of medium sized equipment.
- Ability to take and follow directions from supervisor.
- Ability to perform strenuous and routine work.
- Ability to lift objects of up to 50 pounds.
ADA Minimum Qualifications:
- Physical Ability: Essential functions continuously require the ability to remain in a stationary position (sitting/standing); move oneself about the worksite by walking; ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and ramps; reach overhead; position oneself by crouching or kneeling; maintain body equilibrium to prevent failing when walking, standing, crouching or navigating narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces; push or pull items; repetitively use hands/arms/legs; grasp items; and move/transport items weighing up to 25lbs. - Essential functions frequently require the ability to bend body downward and forward by bending spine and legs, twisting at the waist, hips or knees; and move/transport items weighing between 26lbs and 75lbs. Essential functions frequently require incumbents to use math/calculations.
- Essential functions occasionally require the ability to move oneself by crawling on hands and knees and move/transport items weighing between 76lbs and 100lbs. Essential functions occasionally require incumbents to be on-call; work irregular hours (i.e. nights and/or weekends); and attend work related meetings and trainings.
- Sensory Ability: Essential Functions require the ability to use effective verbal and written communication; and use of hand/eye coordination and fine manipulation to use tools and equipment.
- Environmental Factors: Essential functions are continuously performed with exposure to risk of bodily injury from hazards including chemical, sharp objects/tools, heavy machinery, and traffic; dirt/mud, fumes, gasses, odors, dust, grease and oil; moving mechanical parts; extreme noise; vibration; and wet, slippery floors/surfaces. Incumbents continuously must be able to work with others.
- Essential functions are frequently performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions, including inclement weather or dry environments; extreme hot or cold temperatures; risk of bodily injury from biological hazards; working in high heights/high places or constricted spaces; and hot temperature devices including burners and flame torches.
- Essential functions are occasionally performed with exposure to risk of bodily injury from electrical hazards. Incumbents occasionally must be able to work alone.
- Incumbents regularly must be able to work around equipment/machinery; drive county vehicles and other equipment; and walk on uneven ground.
