Position Summary:

The Banquet Captain will supervise the banquet functions including setup, service, and strike for all assigned events. The Banquet Captain also supervises banquet servers (including temporary staff) to ensure member/guest satisfaction and presentation are consistently attained. This is a non-exempt hourly position; work schedule will include nights, weekends, and holidays based on scheduled events or club necessity.

Compensation $26.00 per hour

Essential Job Functions: *including but not limited to*

  • Execute upscale events for members and non-members. Be able to independently solve on site problems of hosts and guests and effectively communicate any issues or last-minute changes to the team.
  • Read and understand the complexities of a multipage BEO, run-of-show/timeline, and diagram(s). Conduct pre-shift meetings for every event to ensure all information regarding each function is properly communicated to facilitate successfully executed events and ensure staff are well informed.
  • Attends weekly BEO meeting. Continuously evaluate strategies and ideas for enhancement.
  • Develop, supervise, and train staff in the set up and break down of assigned banquet rooms according to the contract, BEO, and manager instructions as well as any other necessary staff training programs, including customer service, and serving etiquette.
  • Work closely with kitchen staff, especially the Banquet Chef, as well as F&B Team to communicate necessary changes efficiently and effectively. Relay any important information about order, allergies, and special requests to the Culinary Team.
  • Checks all banquet rooms, banquet equipment, storage closet and service areas of kitchen for cleanliness, proper setup and make sure sufficient supplies and equipment are available for function.
  • Monitor inventory and ensure maintenance, proper care/handling, and security of catering equipment, supplies and furniture through proper supervision. Report issues and/or low supply levels to the maintenance team and/or purchasing manager at once.
  • Manage event setup to ensure all guests requirements are set in a timely manner prior to the event start time. Inspect the settings and room for cleanliness and accuracy. During the event, observe guests to fulfill any additional requests, to perceive when next course should begin, or when meal is complete. Maintain constant contact with the banquet chef to ensure conclusion between food production and food service are met.
  • Assists clients, staff, and other departments in the absence of the Catering Coordinator.
  • Creates and maintains Banquet menu cards, place cards, and menus as requested.
  • Ensure that all staff are in adherence to proper service rules, grooming, hygiene standards and uniform policies are met. Guide, direct and motivate staff, monitor performance. All issues must be discussed with supervisor and submitted on the Captains Report form and saved on internal drive.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

  • Proven leadership experience in effectively managing a team is essential.
  • Ability to both give and take direction in a positive manner.
  • Maintain a courteous, professional demeanor, and have a friendly, caring, and helpful attitude with clients, and club staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to make independent decisions and work autonomously

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

Two-year degree from an accredited university in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel and Restaurant Management or related major or a minimum of two years of relevant experience: or any equivalent combination of experience and training in the catering sales business, administration or in the marketing of member or guest’s services. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Food Handler and TABC Certification are required for this role.

Physical Demands:

This position involves (on a regular basis) sitting, standing, walking, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting, reaching, climbing stairs/ladders, continuous repetitive motions, sometimes hot/cold and noisy environments, and lifting at least 50 pounds.
