Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Break-Fix and Preventative Maintenance: Perform advanced troubleshooting and repair tasks. Duties include diagnosing issues by observing device operations, disassembling devices to access and replace defective parts, inspecting parts for flaws, adjusting functional components, and testing devices for performance. Conduct repairs on electrical circuitry and mechanical systems, and recondition machine tools.
- Parts and Supply Management: Identify and procure necessary parts, supplies, and repair items. Evaluate alternatives to enhance equipment cost-effectiveness and reliability.
- Independent Maintenance: Carry out maintenance tasks following industry standards with minimal supervision.
- Optimization Collaboration: Work closely with counterparts to improve maintenance processes, reliability, and preventative maintenance practices.
- Machining Operations: Set up and operate various machining tools such as lathes, drill presses, and grinders. Perform welding tasks as required.
- Compliance: Adhere to industry codes of conduct, housekeeping standards, and safety protocols.
- Documentation: Record work performed in service reports and management systems, providing detailed explanations of observations and performance data.
- Training and Support: Assist lower-level technicians and contribute to team projects. Engage in training and development activities, including on-the-job training.
- Complex Troubleshooting: Analyze and resolve complex control system issues related to software, hardware, and configuration.
- Advanced Technologies: Utilize modern maintenance technologies to gather equipment performance data, observe trends, and make improvement recommendations.
- Safety Practices: Follow all safety policies, rules, regulations, and technical guidelines. Maintain situational awareness and address unsafe conditions and behaviors.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSAs), & Competencies:
Essential KSAs:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Associates Degree with a technical focus and 10 years of relevant experience, or 12 years of experience in the field.
- In-depth understanding of electrical, mechanical, fluid power, and control systems. Ability to analyze problems, develop alternative solutions, and perform repairs.
- Proficiency in using both basic and specialized tools.
- Extensive travel required, primarily within the Chicago region (3-4 hour radius), with potential for local, national, and international travel.
Desirable KSAs:
- Experience with condition-based maintenance techniques, precision mechanical alignments, and maintenance of process equipment.
- Familiarity with programmable logic controllers, field device troubleshooting, and maintenance of electrical drive and motor systems.
