Job Description

Are you a visionary leader with a passion for philanthropy and a deep personal commitment to maximizing private support for Indiana University? The Indiana University Foundation (IUF) is seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Vice President (SVP) of Development to join our team. Reporting directly to the EVP of Development, this pivotal new role is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Development department, overseeing a diverse range of fundraising leaders. As SVP of Development, you will collaborate with academic leaders, development professionals, and constituents to provide strategic leadership and direction, ensuring the success of Indiana University’s philanthropic endeavors.

In this role, you will lead fundraising initiatives aligned with IUF's strategic objectives, fostering lifelong relationships with donors, and continuously improving partnerships with university development partners. You will cultivate constructive working relationships with academic unit leaders and fundraising staff across all IU campuses, promoting an innovative, agile, and high-performing organization that values diversity and inclusiveness among staff and volunteers.

As the SVP of Development, you will directly manage our Development leadership team. As such, you will be a key leader at IUF, implementing, activating, and leading the strategic direction as set forward by the senior management team. You will create and maintain a workforce strategy that prepares for future talent needs by hiring and developing high-performing leaders, evaluating and elevating performance, providing developmental coaching and feedback, and managing budgets effectively. In addition, you will manage a portfolio of principal gift donors, support Indiana University’s President in development activities, participate in donor cultivation and solicitation, and actively steward key constituents. Your thoughts, ideas, and input are expected at all levels of the organization, and you are a leader who thrives on personal and professional development.

Join us in leading a world-class fundraising program. Apply today to make your impact on the future of higher education and philanthropy at Indiana University.

  • Experience related to all aspects of planning and successfully executing large ($2 billion +) fundraising campaigns including working with academic leaders and preparing transformative and complex gift proposals;
  • Skills in leading major gifts officers and development staff other than those in front-line fundraising positions (e.g., research, donor relations, event management, etc.);
  • Proven analytical skills – proficiency at framing and solving complex problems, proficiency in leveraging large databases for meaningful insights (e.g., standard fundraising data) and setting goals and identifying opportunities as it relates to gift officer performance;

  • Relationship management skills beyond immediate staff (e.g., ability to work with alumni, faculty, and university staff in a collegial and productive manner);
  • Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills (able to tailor communications to multiple audiences such as the Board, major donors, staff, and university leadership) including experience with successful speaking to large audiences.

Education and Experience:
