Early Head Start Family Service Worker


FAMILY SERVICE WORKER

Rate of Pay: $12--$18 per hour

Reports to: Family Service Manager

Terms of Employment: Full-time (12 months -230 day)

Evaluation of Performance: Performance will be ealuated annually by the Family Service Manager and/or Director

The Family Service Worker (FSW) will recruit and enroll children in the Head Start program and ensure that Head Start program services and community resources are available to enrolled children and their families.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. High school diploma or GED
  2. At least one year experience in the field of social services, psychology or family services.
  3. Driver must provide evidence of a valid driver's license and current automobile liability insurance.
  4. Must to able to work with a low income, ethically and culturally diverse population.
  5. One yearof case management or home visiting experience or working with at-risk families.
  6. Ability to relate well to young children and their parents.
  7. Patience, flexibility, and ability to adapt to change.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  1. Provides case management services to families in the Head Start program, including direct services to families by assisting them in determining family strengths, needs, and goals.
  2. In partnership with the center parents, plans and facilitates monthly parenting meetings.
  3. Provides crisis intervention as needed and appropriate.
  4. Provides education to families relating to topics such as parenting, budgeting, household cleanliness, safety, lice and other family issues as necessary.
  5. Maintains a working knowledge of community resources and current trends in social services.
  6. Works collaboratively with staff to provide comprehensive, integrated services for families.
  7. Compiles and maintains family case records of services provided, including ensuring medical and dental homes have been established.
  8. Initiates or assists staff to make, child abuse reports as necessary.
  9. Maintains confidentiality as required by law and Burke County Early Head Start policy.
  10. Attends community meetings where EHS representation is appropriate.
