Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Education & Community Engagement, the University of Maryland Outreach Intern will be an integral part of the outreach and engagement to target populations and will provide support for connecting to and engaging Transitioning Youth Students and their families with educational information of Transition Age Youth Support Services and the Arc’s Benefits Enrollment Center. This position has no direct reports.



Position Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a calendar of outreach events.
  • Build and maintain new and existing relationships with collaborative partners.
  • Schedule regular outreach exhibitions in the community.
  • Participate in outreach events to educate Transitioning Age Youth students and families.
  • Gather, interpret, and evaluate data to ensure objectives are being met.
  • Maintain a pipeline of potential organizational partnerships.
  • Provide program evaluation support to the Evaluator, Program Director, and Director of Education & Community Engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Mental, Physical, and Visual Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. The ability to drive is a requirement of the position.


While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve non-routine and complex problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or skills; perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks; work under intensive deadlines with frequent interruptions; and interact with the community stakeholders including elected and appointed officials, staff, people served, the public and others encountered in the course of work.


Working Conditions:

Normal office environment. Must be familiar with basic office equipment (e.g. computer, facsimile, copier, postage machines, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • High School Degree.
  • Post-Secondary Student with a Public or Community Health background is preferred.
  • Outstanding written communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong experience preparing reports.
  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills, with an emphasis on timeliness.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of input data.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and eagerness to learn.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision both remotely and in the office.
  • Ability to follow instructions and ask clarifying questions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work in the evening and on weekends.
  • Must be familiar with basic office equipment (e.g. computer, facsimile, copier, postage machines, etc.).
  • Previous working experience and familiarity with the service population is preferred.
