POSITION SUMMARY:

The Sleep Coach plays a crucial role in supporting patients with their CPAP therapy by providing personalized coaching, equipment fitting, and troubleshooting. This role involves direct patient interaction, comprehensive record management, and collaboration with healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The Sleep Coach is responsible for guiding patients through the setup and ongoing use of CPAP equipment, ensuring compliance with therapy, and addressing any issues that arise.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Mask Fitting:
    • Conduct personalized mask fittings for patients to ensure comfort and effectiveness.
    • Educate patients on proper mask usage, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
    • Use technology and experience to ensure patients are fitted with appropriate mask.
  2. Charting and Record Management:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including therapy progress and equipment usage.
    • Document patient interactions, assessments, and follow-up plans in electronic health records (EHR).
  3. Machine Assessment and Diagnostics:
    • Perform assessments and diagnostics on CPAP machines to ensure proper functionality.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with CPAP equipment.
  4. Insurance Understanding and Allowable Supplies:
    • Understand insurance policies and guidelines related to CPAP therapy.
    • Assist patients with navigating insurance coverage, including allowable supplies and coverage criteria.
    • Stay updated on coverage criteria for CPAP supplies and ensure patients receive necessary documentation for insurance claims.
    • Educate patients on insurance requirements and help them obtain coverage for their supplies.
  5. Referral Communication:
    • Communicate effectively with referral sources, including physicians and healthcare providers.
    • Ensure timely and accurate transmission of referral information and patient updates.
  6. Respiratory Therapist Support:
    • Collaborate with respiratory therapists to provide comprehensive care for patients.
    • Assist with patient education and follow-up as directed by respiratory therapists.
  7. Walk-In Patient Assistance:
    • Address the needs of walk-in patients, providing immediate assistance and support.
    • Manage patient inquiries, concerns, and equipment needs promptly and professionally.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains patient confidentiality and rights.
  • Following all policies and procedures as outlined by the company, governmental
    regulations, and HIPAA standards.
  • Provide excellent customer service while taking inbound calls and assisting with requests.
  • Always presents a professional appearance and appropriate conduct.
  • Uses PTO appropriately.
  • Performs all other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in healthcare or a related field preferred.
  • Certification as a CPAP Technician or similar qualification is a plus.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in sleep medicine or durable medical equipment.
  • Strong understanding of CPAP equipment, mask fitting, and therapy compliance.
  • Knowledge of insurance policies and procedures related to CPAP therapy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) and other medical software.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with CPAP equipment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.


PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift and move CPAP equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity to handle and adjust CPAP masks and equipment.
  • Clinical office setting with potential exposure to patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Regular interaction with patients, healthcare providers, and administrative staff.
