FLSA Status: Salaried-Exempt

Employment Type: Full-time

Hours: Monday-Friday from either 9 am-5 pm or 10 am-6 pm.

Salary:  The baseline salary for this position is $65,000; additional compensation is negotiable based on experience.

 

About Us: African Communities Together (ACT) is an organization of African immigrants fighting for civil rights, opportunity, and a better life for our families here in the U.S. and worldwide. ACT empowers African immigrants to integrate socially, get ahead economically, and engage civically. We develop our members as grassroots leaders who take action to make social change. Since its founding, ACT has supported thousands of African immigrants with direct services, trained hundreds of new leaders, and led successful policy campaigns at the federal, state, and local levels that have impacted hundreds of thousands of immigrants. ACT’s African immigrant membership comes from a diverse range of nationalities, cultures, and languages, is religiously diverse, and is predominantly working-class and low-income. We have offices in New York City and the Washington, D.C. metro area.

 

Overview: We recently launched our Healthcare Support Career Accelerator (HSCA)  program. Through this initiative, we aim to assist African immigrants in healthcare support roles in overcoming career stagnation and gaining access to more equitable job opportunities within the healthcare industry. This role will be  instrumental in supporting the expansion and scaling of our Healthcare Support Career Accelerator (HSCA) model across our Chapter locations in the  long term.

 

Position Description:

ACT is seeking a proactive and dynamic Program Coordinator to support the implementation of our workforce program. The Program coordinator is responsible for managing the daily operations of the workforce program, including recruitment, case management, logistics, and supporting program monitoring, evaluation, and reporting. This role will work with programmatic teams to advance the goals of the organization's workforce program. The ideal candidate will have strong project management skills, and a passion for building innovative programs. 

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

Recruitment & Logistics

  • Screen and enroll eligible participants into the program.
  • Ensure training materials and facilities are prepared and available.
  • Coordinate logistics for program activities, including training sessions, workshops, scheduling, venue arrangement, and participant communication.
 

Project management

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations, tracking program and ensuring program milestones are met on time.
  • Maintain and monitor evaluation processes as well as the development and collection of surveys.
  • Utilize data management systems to track and analyze program outcomes and participant progress.
  • Present program updates and outcomes to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide regular updates on program activities, challenges to the Director of Workforce Programs.
  • Collaborate with program staff and partners to ensure the successful implementation of the Workforce Program.
 

Case management:

  • Conduct initial assessments of participants to determine needs, goals, and challenges.
  • Maintain regular contact with participants to monitor progress, address concerns, and provide ongoing assistance.
  • Connect participants to Community Navigators to connect participants with resources such as education programs, employment, and community services.
  • Track participants' progress, attendance, and performance, and provide personalized support and guidance.
  • Advocate for participants' needs and interests within the program and the community.
 

External Partnerships

  • Maintain and cultivate partnerships with external stakeholders including other community-based organizations, educational institutions , and funders.
 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of relevant experience in coordinating capacity-building or similar programs and initiatives in nonprofit settings, with previous experience in workforce development being advantageous.
  • Ability to synthesize and communicate plans, goals, strategy, and outcomes clearly, orally, in writing, and digital presentation. in a concise and organized manner.
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized, and proactive, with an ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment, previous experience working with immigrant communities being strongly preferred.
  • A self-starter with the ability to conceptualize and implement new initiatives, driving them to successful completion through effective planning and execution. 
  • Excellent public speaking and facilitation skills.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English; proficiency in French, Arabic, or other widely spoken African languages is a plus.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and an aptitude for data analytics, with familiarity with software tools and platforms for data management and reporting.
  • Proficiency in using a range of commonly used software tools, including Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, CRM systems, and project management platforms.
  • A passion for ACT’s mission and demonstrated commitment to community-centered immigrant justice.
