WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Under the guidance of the Program Manager, the Arts and Music Instructor provides support the Music Recording studio with music production, as well as, daily classes, workshops and mentorship, in the studio and for the organization. They will collaborate in curricular design for the Creative's Lab, an Arts & Entrepreneurship intensive, as well as, performance and production for the Art Program's annual Performing Arts Night. Utilizing Larkin Street's "This is How we Roll" value system, which includes frameworks in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), Restorative Practices, Trauma Informed Care, Harm Reduction, Motivational Interviewing, the Art team works to create a supportive and compassionate environment where we build a community space for transitional age youth (18-24). The Arts & Music Instructor should have skill sets and professional experience in several of the following fields: Performing Arts, Visual Art & Design, Music Production, the Business of Arts, Entrepreneurship and youth development, with a focus on motivating and coaching youth; the ability to foster an environment conducive to exploring sensitive and personal topics; the ability to communicate and inspire learning in students of diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, as well as, those with learning differences. The instructor must be able to organize and manage virtual and in person classrooms; and implement a successful hands-on, student-centered pedagogy.

This is a full-time position, eligible for full benefits.

Your responsibilities are:

  • Run our music recording studio, including recording, mixing and mastering youth artist's work.
  • Design and implement virtual and in person lessons/workshops using DEI, and culturally relevant pedagogy. Activities that are interactive, creative, and combine different learning approaches for multiple Art and Career/education subject matter
  • Keep accurate records and intake information on database systems (ETO) on each participant including attendance, assessment, consent forms, surveys, etc.
  • Work with Art Program Manager and team to develop and accomplish program goals
  • Motivate students to increase their performance, attendance, and program retention
  • Create supportive, clean, and well-organized daily classroom and studio space to maximize youth engagement
  • Collaborate with Larkin Street Academy Education and Employment teams to link youth to education and employment programming
  • Collaborate with Case Managers, Wellness team and other Larkin Street departments and external service providers to support youth being connected with the services they need
  • Support youth in advising and individual mentorship sessions
  • Outreach through Larkin Street Youth Services residential and engagement programming to streamline access to education and employment opportunities
  • Coordinate referrals to internal and external partners and community-based organizations
  • Provide support on the floor for our Engagement and Community Center and Larkin Street Academy spaces as needed
  • Collaborate with contractors, partners and/or other stake holders involved in programming with Larkin Street Youth Services
  • Provide support for contractors and guest artists when working with them on site or off-site during project based events
