Charles River CFO seeks a driven Client Services Corporate Controller to take ownership of the integrity of the general and subsidiary ledgers and the accounting environment for our client southwest of Boston. THIS IS A FULL TIME INTERIM ONSITE POSITION. This includes overseeing the people, systems, and processes supporting our distribution client. The Controller will provide proactive analysis and information to the CFO, finance team peers, business leaders, and auditors.
Essential Functions:
Accounting Operations
- Take charge of supervising, managing, and developing the accounting team.
- Oversee the financial supervision of the inventory control process.
- Effectively manage day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, inventory, and cash management.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the general and subsidiary ledgers.
- Prepare timely and accurate consolidated financial statements for all entities by GAAP.
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes.
- Provide meaningful and concise analysis of balance sheet and profit and loss account reconciliations to the CFO.
- Act as a critical contact for resolving issues for customers (credit and collections) and suppliers (accounts payable).
- Serve as the critical point of contact for external auditors to supervise and prepare the year-end audit engagement.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal tax filings and reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with FP&A to provide critical insights into the business's financial performance, as reflected in monthly financial statements. Provide critical input into preparing the annual budget, pricing decisions, and the forecasting process.
Process and Controls
- Document and implement accounting and operational controls, such as the eController's manual.
- Evaluate, develop, document, implement, and monitor inventory control, business processes, and accounting procedures to maintain and strengthen internal controls safeguarding the company's assets.
- Proactively review current processes and benchmarks against best practice frameworks to implement process improvements within the department and the organization, including streamlining daily operations and monthly and annual close processes.
Skills and Qualifications:
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience in manufacturing, distribution, or 3rd party logistics companies.
- Experience with a highly regulated industry and with foreign currency.
- An accounting degree and CPA are strongly preferred, along with a proven track record as a corporate controller.
- Strong technical background in US GAAP.
- Cost accounting experience is a plus.
- Experience working with sophisticated Enterprise Resource Planning software and experience with Microsoft Dynamics Nav are highly preferred.
- Expert in Excel and strong MS Office skills.
- Experience in process and system integrations.
- Proven leadership skills and the ability to manage multiple direct reports.
- Passion for continuous improvement, particularly in business process design.
- Champion working with clear, documented, and reviewed SOPs and KPIs.
- Effective time and resource management to meet deadlines and respond to requests on a timely basis.
- Effective professional written and verbal communication within the finance team and the broader organization.
- Ability to influence business decisions with concrete financial support.
