JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Finance manages the organization's financial resources. These functions include accounting, finance, organization-wide and program-specific budgets based on generally accepted accounting principles and organization contractual policies and procedures. Safeguard assets through the maintenance of proper controls. This position ensures legal and regulatory compliance for all accounting and financial reporting functions. The finance director oversees cost and general accounting, accounts receivable/collection, and payroll. Participates as a senior management team member in developing and implementing organization-wide policies and programs that will contribute to the agency's overall success and advance its mission.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

BA/BS degree plus 5-10 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, business, human resources, and/or related fields.

Experience:

1. Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Knowledge of and/or experience with non-profit funding and operations and local, state, or federal government contracts is necessary. Knowledge of and/or experience with cost accounting.

2. Strong relational and administrative skills proven to work well with teams and independently.

3. Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills, including facilitation and public speaking.

4. Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and excellent problem-solving skills.

5. May require occasional travel for the organization and work beyond normal working hours when necessary.

Description of Duties:

General Requirements:

1. Represent the organization professionally and competently.

10. Possess strong computer and software skills/knowledge (i.e., MS Word, MS Excel, QuickBooks, and various other accounting software).

12. Responsible for promptly preparing assigned reports, work records, statistical data, job performance evaluations, work plans, etc.

Program Specific:

1. Develops, implements, and manages a financial reporting system that maintains internal operating controls, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, financial statement preparation and reporting, tax return preparation, and monitoring of capital assets and inventory. Applies advanced knowledge of general and nonprofit accounting principles. Presents a clear picture of the organization’s financial results and operations.

2. Develop budgets and forecasts for all entities, including assets, liabilities, revenue, and expenses.

3. Responsible for monitoring and managing cash flow, grants, and other restricted income, tax reporting programs, investments, reserve funds, fixed asset tracking, and depreciation of capital assets.

4. Make recommendations to the CEO regarding the organization’s purchase order system.

5. Responsible for efficient and cost-effective administration and management of organization resources.

6. Coordinates with the Leadership Team to develop the annual operating budget for approval by the CEO and Board of Directors. Educates senior staff and their managers on financial issues impacting their budgets.

7. Oversee banking and financial institution relationships.

8. Conducts cost and trend analysis and collaborates on special projects as requested by the CEO.

9. Monitors return on investment (ROI) for all organizational programs and initiatives.

10. Prepares, provides, and ensures the accuracy, integrity, credibility, and timeliness of financial reports for management and the Board of Directors. Provides staffing and education to board-level committees (Audit/Finance/Investment).

11. Leads the finance department with preparing year-end financial statements for the annual audit report, makes recommendations to the CEO, and collaborates with auditors to complete annual IRS Form 990 filings.

12. Ensures financial compliance and reporting with all appropriate governmental agencies and other revenue-based contracts.

13. Coordinates with other departments to appropriately address partner agency’s concerns regarding agency credits, agency grants, handling fees, and other agency financial matters.

14. Provides backup oversight to the administration of payroll.

15. Oversees all segments of the general accounting functions, including maintaining general and subsidiary ledgers, preparing operating and financial statements, reconciliation of accounts, fixed asset control, and depreciation.

16. Advise and counsel the CEO, Management Team, and Board of Directors on:

a. Financial policy matters, such as purchasing, accounts receivable and payable, investments, etc., and makes recommendations as needed.

b. The implementation of new funding streams directed toward improving organizational programming and scopes of service.

17. Demonstrates a commitment to understanding the mission of CAPC and compassion and appreciation for intervention, prevention, family support services, and early intervention & youth education.

18. Serve as a member of Senior Leadership.

19. Supervise department employees.

20. Perform other duties as assigned.
