The DV Therapist plays a vital role in a survivor’s healing process. The ideal candidate is compassionate, exhibits empathy, and has experience in crisis intervention and group facilitation. Knowledge of domestic/family violence and trauma-informed practices is preferred but not required. On-the-job training will be provided. A master's degree in social work/human services is preferred, with licensing or the ability to apply for licensing through the MI Dept. of Licensing & Regulatory Affairs.

The clientele of the DV Therapist is primarily survivors of domestic violence, but the individual will occasionally work with survivors of sexual assault. This position works first shift hours, participates in on-call coverage, and works with the team to cover open shifts and holidays when necessary.

Specific Duties:

  • Provide crisis intervention, counseling, advocacy, and therapy for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault/abuse.
  • Facilitate support groups for victims of domestic violence or abuse.
  • Continually evaluate and report on the Domestic Violence Services Program.
  • Participate in the rotating SANE and Pediatric SANE Program on-call duties.
  • Participate in crisis hotline coverage and residential support needs.
  • Participate in the development of programming within the agency and community that increases intervention services to victims of sexual assault and abuse and their families.
  • Attend training to continually increase knowledge and skills.
  • Participate in training of volunteers and students working with domestic violence and sexual assault victims.
  • Maintain ongoing, positive communication and collaborative efforts within the community.
  • Participate in the community outreach and response teams/committees.
  • Maintain current referral resources for staff, volunteers, and clients.
  • Participate in community awareness activities/events when required and necessary.
  • Ensure confidentiality and accuracy of client files.
  • Compile, maintain, and report statistical data as required and necessary.

Requirements

  • Preferred: A master’s degree in human services, social work, or psychology with licensure or the ability to apply for licensure through the MI Dept. of Licensing & Regulatory Affairs, Bureau of Professional Licensing.
  • Consideration may be given to students with at least one year of course completion under a human services, social work, or psychology master’s degree program.
  • Ability to work independently, with outstanding organizational skills.
  • Skills in program development/program management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Able and willing to work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to be non-judgmental and to work with a diverse population.
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds on occasion.
  • Able to travel within the service area and the state.
  • Able to safely operate office machines and shelter appliances/equipment.
  • Successful candidates are subject to Central Registry Clearance and criminal background screening.
