Assistant Director of Facilities - Services

Porter-Gaud School is an Episcopal, independent, coeducational day school with 1,650 students in preschool through 12th grade. The Facilities Department has an opening for the position of Assistant Director of Facilities - Services, to start on May 1st, 2024.


This position reports directly to the Director of Facilities and works closely with other Facilities employees. The Assistant Director of Facilities - Services is responsible for the scheduling of custodial and housekeeping activities at all three campuses and event setup/coordination in support of the operation of the School.


Flexibility is essential. This position will/may be required to work when the School is closed which may include holidays, weekends and extended hours in summer. Availability to attend events at any/all of the three Porter-Gaud/O'Quinn campuses, during both regular and off work hours is required.



Primary Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Take a leadership role in developing and implementing the custodial and housekeeping routines, both on a reactive and proactive basis
  • Responsible for maintaining employee schedules and communication with the Human Resources department of the school, including the accumulation and forwarding of relevant documentation
  • Responsible for maintaining an inventory system for custodial supplies and equipment
  • Provide leadership, training and professional development guidance to all custodial team members
  • Responsible for the management of campus events/setups (to include athletic competitions, meetings and conferences)
  • Works closely with the Assistant Director of Facilities (Operations) in the coordination of campus events and with interior building maintenance
  • Review of vendor invoices for agreement to contracted terms and subsequent communication with accounting department
  • Responsible for the campus solid waste/recycling management plan
  • Compliance with all applicable safety regulations.
  • Compliance with all department rules, as specified in the Employee Handbook.
  • Serves as the backup for the Director of Facilities, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities

Required skills:

  • Proven management skills, including but not limited to areas of personnel, time, budget and property management
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to articulate ideas clearly, both verbally and in writing
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Google and other database applications
  • Service oriented problem-solver who is able to successfully work with diverse individuals in an educational environment
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management system (preferred)
  • Experience in coaching, supervising and/or mentoring employees (preferred).

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • 10+ years of supervisory experience in a Customer Service and/or Facilities industry
  • Extensive knowledge/experience custodial and housekeeping operations
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, experience and training
  • APPA and/or CMI certification (preferred)
  • Experience in an educational environment (preferred)

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
