Title: Calibration / Manufacturing Engineering Technician

Department: Engineering

Reports To: Sr. Manager of Operational Continuous Improvement

FLSA Status: Regular Full Time, Exempt


Summary: This is a dual role.

  • Responsible for coordination and execution of Calibration and Preventative Maintenance. This position will drive compliance with the quality and facility standards for calibration of equipment or coordination of calibration (equipment dependent), and the coordination of preventative maintenance.
  • Responsible for Engineering Technician Support: This position is responsible for providing technical support for the engineering team. These duties include assisting with production support, troubleshooting issues with existing jobs, assisting with IQ/OQ/PQ validation runs, creation and editing of technical documentation such as standard operating procedures (SOPS), machine settings, press diagrams, and videos, for production or manufacturing transfer.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Comply with GMP, ISO13485 and FDA requirements
  • Calibration (50%):
  • Responsible for Calibration system
  • Review, prioritize and schedule all calibration based on due dates, urgency and necessity
  • Perform calibration of equipment or coordination of calibration (equipment dependent)
  • Actively work to incorporate LEAN into calibration process (e.g. reduce costs, group calibrations)
  • Preventative Maintenance (20%):
  • Responsible for Preventative Maintenance system
  • Review, prioritize and schedule all preventative maintenance based on due dates, urgency and necessity
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment, according to schedule
  • Actively work to incorporate LEAN into Preventative Maintenance program (e.g. group PMs)
  • Engineering Technician (30%)
  • Support Engineering team
  • Supporting lean manufacturing improvements, installing equipment, building fixtures, making machine modifications, proposing and implementing innovative improvements throughout the facility
  • Understand and assist production associates with accurate print reading and interpretation
  • Responsible for providing engineering technical assistance during manufacturing transfer:
  • Ensure all necessary equipment, tooling, and processes have been properly qualified and documented
  • Ensure all documentation (MOM, BOM, BOO, MWI, Press Diagram, Set up video) are complete and accurate and released in the Quality Management System (Epicor or MasterControl).
  • Ensure that production personnel have been trained to ensure consistent production of high-quality product.
  • Responsible to learn how to safely operate numerous pieces of equipment including rotary converting presses, rotary printing presses, packaging machines, laser cutters, die cutters, sheeters, sonic welders, brake presses, printing equipment, labelers, tensile testers, power tools, inspection equipment, and robots.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Training/Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 2-year technical degree preferred or equivalent
  • Proficient PC skills including Microsoft Office application, familiarity with ERP/MRP systems
  • 3-5 years of calibration experience
  • 3-5 years of manufacturing experience

  • Flexibility: Ability to handle the pressure of being in charge of prioritizing and repairing the equipment, while remaining flexible to occasionally work odd hours or on-call to ensure equipment is up and running.
  • Communication: Is able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization to solve maintenance issues, can effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Understands the important role listening plays in communicating effectively to solve problems.
  • Teamwork: Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all associates. Is willing to work overtime and cover other shifts if needed.
  • Mechanical/Electrical Ability: Is able to troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical issues with equipment.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Has the ability to read and interpret electrical, pneumatic schematics and hydraulic circuits. Able to use various meters and hand and power tools.
  • Physical Abilities: Is able to move around freely including, bending, squatting, twisting, climbing, walking and lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally.

Evidence of Success:

  • Calibration of equipment completed on time > 98% of the time
  • Preventative Maintenance completed on time > 98% of the time
  • Engineering projects completed on time > 90% of the time
