Title: Calibration / Manufacturing Engineering Technician

Department: Engineering

Reports To: Sr. Manager of Operational Continuous Improvement

FLSA Status: Regular Full Time, Exempt


Overview: This position encompasses a dual role focused on calibration and engineering support.

  • Calibration Responsibilities: This role is pivotal in managing the calibration and preventative maintenance processes. You will ensure adherence to quality and facility standards for equipment calibration, alongside the organization of preventative maintenance activities.
  • Engineering Technician Support: Provide essential technical assistance to the engineering team, including troubleshooting production issues, supporting validation runs, and creating or modifying technical documentation such as standard operating procedures (SOPs) and machine settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with GMP, ISO13485, and FDA regulations.
  • Calibration (50%):
    • Oversee the calibration system, prioritizing and scheduling calibration tasks based on urgency and necessity.
    • Conduct equipment calibration or coordinate calibration efforts as needed.
    • Implement LEAN principles to enhance the calibration process, aiming to reduce costs and consolidate calibrations.
  • Preventative Maintenance (20%):
    • Manage the preventative maintenance system, reviewing and scheduling maintenance tasks accordingly.
    • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment as per established schedules.
    • Integrate LEAN methodologies into the preventative maintenance program.
  • Engineering Technician (30%):
    • Support the engineering team in various capacities, including lean manufacturing initiatives and equipment modifications.
    • Assist production staff with accurate interpretation of technical documents.
    • Provide engineering support during manufacturing transitions, ensuring all equipment and processes are qualified and documented.

Accountabilities:

  • Achieve company safety, quality, and on-time delivery goals.
  • Complete calibration and preventative maintenance tasks within established timelines.
  • Deliver engineering projects by agreed deadlines.
  • Maintain current and comprehensive training records.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; a 2-year technical degree is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with ERP/MRP systems.
  • 3-5 years of experience in calibration and manufacturing.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Proactive and self-motivated, with a strong understanding of calibration and maintenance importance.
  • Logical and objective decision-making skills, with accountability for outcomes.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with strong listening abilities.

  • Physical capability to perform tasks that may involve lifting and moving equipment.

Success Indicators:

  • Calibration tasks completed on time with a success rate exceeding 98%.
  • Preventative maintenance tasks completed on schedule with a success rate exceeding 98%.
  • Engineering projects delivered on time with a success rate exceeding 90%.
