Position Overview:

The associate women’s volleyball coach is responsible for assisting the director of volleyball coach in all aspects of running an NCAA Division I women’s volleyball program by recruiting academically qualified prospective students-athletes, developing and implementing training sessions, practices and game plans, educating and coaching student-athletes, and supporting student-athletes in their personal, academic and athletic development at Merrimack College. This full-time position reports directly to the director of volleyball and is responsible for assisting in all phases of the program in accordance with NCAA Division I, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and Merrimack College rules, regulations and policies.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the recruitment of quality student-athletes to meet specified enrollment goals, which includes evaluating talent, visiting/communicating with prospective student-athletes and parents/guardians, planning on-campus visits and completing the appropriate forms and communication with the athletic compliance office, as needed

  • Determine athletic scholarship allocation for prospective student-athletes, working within requirements set and communicated by athletic administration.

  • Organize, plan and conduct effective and efficient team practices and individual skill instruction sessions with demonstrated ability to teach and instruct the sport of volleyball.

  • Responsible for preparing individual players and the team for competition; use of video and technology to teach, improve and develop players.

  • Participate in the development of the whole student-athlete — athletically, academically and personally, regarding individual well-being and life skills.

  • Scout opposing teams and assist in the breakdown of game film for teaching purposes.

  • Conduct coaching and student-athlete meetings.

  • Help monitor the academic progress of student-athletes.

  • This position is supported by the Director of Volleyball and Head Men’s Volleyball coach.

  • Work alongside the Director of Volleyball to build a community of fans and friends, both on and off campus, to support and engage with the women’s volleyball program. Work with the director of volleyball on fundraising initiatives by engaging in joint fundraising events and building clinic opportunities for both programs.

  • The Director of Volleyball will assist in the travel planning for away contests.

  • Collaborate with the director of volleyball to build the department-approved budget, and assist with the fiscal responsibility in the management of the budget.

  • Work with the Director of Volleyball to secure non-conference matches and build a competitive schedule in both programs; communicate schedule with the sport supervisor for approval.

  • Represent the program with the highest level of professionalism, sportsmanship and integrity.

  • Support a culture that demonstrates a commitment to NCAA rules compliance, Conference rules and protocols, and institutional policies.

  • Foster a culture that demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as well as trust and mutual respect.

  • Participate in departmental activities including staff meetings, compliance education, diversity, equity and inclusion training, guest speaker presentations and other events/meetings.

  • Fulfill other specific areas of responsibility related to the program as assigned by the director of volleyball and/or sport supervisor.

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

  • 1-2 years of previous women’s volleyball coaching experience

  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and intercollegiate athletics

  • Demonstrated recruiting skills and knowledge

  • Knowledge of video editing and production

  • Commitment to supporting the academic success and overall well-being of student-athletes

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills including the ability to prioritize and complete tasks by established deadlines

  • Collegiate volleyball playing experience is preferred
