Job Summary

Merrimack College seeks a highly motivated and experienced Assistant Coach to join our Women's Field Hockey team. The successful candidate will assist the Head Coach in all aspects of running a NCAA Division I field hockey program, including recruiting, coaching, and mentoring student-athletes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruitment and Coaching
    • Assist in the supervision and direction of all aspects of the team, at the direction of the Head Coach.
    • Participate in the evaluation and recruitment of high-quality student-athletes, including recruiting travel and the planning of on-campus visits.
    • Participate in the development of student-athletes personally, academically, and athletically.
  • On-Field Coaching
    • Assist in on-field coaching; help plan and run training sessions and practices.
    • Scout opposing teams and assist in the breakdown of game film for teaching purposes.
  • Team Management
    • Coordinate team travel planning, meals, and logistics.
    • Attend individual student-athlete meetings with the Head Coach.
    • Help monitor academic progress and ensure the academic success of team members.
  • Professional Development
    • Represent the program with the highest level of professionalism, sportsmanship, and integrity.
    • Foster and maintain a culture that demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, as well as trust and mutual respect.
    • Foster and maintain a culture that demonstrates a commitment to NCAA rules compliance, Northeast Conference (NEC), and institutional policies.
Requirements
  • Education
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience
    • 1-2 years of previous coaching experience.
  • Skills and Qualifications
    • Knowledge of NCAA rules and intercollegiate athletics.
    • Demonstrated recruiting skills and knowledge.
    • Knowledge of video editing and production.
    • Commitment to supporting the academic success and overall well-being of student-athletes.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent administrative and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and complete tasks by established deadlines.
