The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the accounting operations, supervising staff, and preparing financial statements. This role requires effective leadership and the ability to lead and manage the accounting team. This role supports the CFO in the broader view of the organization’s financial and operational performance.
Requirements:ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Effectively manage and lead the Accounting Department, which includes understanding the functions of the roles within the department.
- Assist CFO with timely preparation and review of the agency financial statements ensuring accuracy and following GAAP
- Prepares journal entries and monthly account reconciliations
- Oversees and reviews month-end responsibilities completed by other accounting staff.
- Tracks Grant expenses and completes applicable reporting requirements
- Develops standards and processes for proper financial management
- Hires, trains, and motivates accounting staff members
- Ensures that department operates efficiently without sacrificing accuracy
- Assists with coordination and preparation of agency financial audits
- Leads implementation of financial technology solutions to enhance and optimize current system functionality
- Adheres to agency policies and procedures
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides back-up to other roles within the Accounting Department
- Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years (preferred) of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Nonprofit experience
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
- Proficiency with accounting software and tools.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Ability to work both independently and with a team while managing multiple priorities.
- Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to mentor and develop staff.
