Miracle Hill Ministries is South Carolina's largest and most comprehensive provider of homeless services. At our core, we exist to serve people experiencing homelessness-physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Summary/Purpose of Position: The Director of Engagement is responsible for supporting strategic ministry partnerships with churches and providing oversight to the Volunteer Program at Miracle Hill Ministries. The program will align with the organization's strategic direction to create connections with churches and organizations in the community and with individual volunteers. The Director will interact with all functional areas of the organization and will act as a liaison between Miracle Hill Ministries and local churches. The Director will be accountable for developing communication strategies, operational plans, and innovative initiatives to move the partnerships forward in a substantial way. The Director is responsible for the creation of a partnership protocol and developing resources that aid in the growth of the program. The Director provides supervision to volunteer engagement staff. The Director will work hand in hand with the Director of Stewardship to ensure well rounded, holistic relationships with Volunteers and Financial Partners.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide Strategic Initiative to build and maintain Church Relations Program:
    • Develop and implement goals and objectives for the church relations program which reflect the mission of Miracle Hill Ministries, and which advances the organization's strategies to increase engagement both financially and with volunteers in the local church.
    • Lead the development of a church partnership guidebook, to include summary of Ministry information, explanation of need, and partnership opportunities, levels, and benefits.
    • Work with local churches to champion Miracle Hill Ministries as a local missions organization, educating pastors and staff on the invitation to serve alongside of MHM
    • Function as a liaison between church contacts and program directors at MHM to accomplish the church's mission goals such as financial partnership, long-term volunteerism, speaking engagements and mission days, etc.
    • Carry portfolio of twenty key partnering churches, providing monthly MHM updates to each church contact
    • Ensure effective communications with partnering organizations.
    • Develop and maintain a comprehensive tracking system of church involvement, detailing the type and level of involvement, contact information, and any other necessary information.
    • Maintain accuracy of churches in Raisers' Edge with the use of constituent codes, actions, relationships, etc.

  • Provide oversight of Volunteer Program
    • Promote the volunteer program to gain community support of the volunteer program and the organization.
    • Provide leadership to Engagement Team, to include hosting monthly team meetings, investing in each team member, hosting team training sessions as needed, and all other supervisory duties.
    • Assist with conflict resolution among clients/guests, staff and volunteers according to established procedures.
    • Assist in the planning and implementation of formal and informal volunteer recognition activities to recognize the contribution of volunteers to the organization.
    • Develop and implement a screening process for potential volunteers according to accepted standards and practices.
    • Seek to build and cultivate relationships with individuals and organizations in the community expressing desire to give of their time and talents in one or more MHM departments.
    • Ensure that volunteers work in a safe, healthy and supportive environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations.
    • With assistance from Volunteer Administrator, maintain updated background check files for every Childrens' Ministry Volunteer, in accordance with regulations from the Department of Social Services
    • Provide oversight to seasonal initiatives, such as events, recruitment of gifts for children at Christmas, volunteer appreciation events, etc.
  • Other duties:
    • Work alongside other Development Directors to formulate and implement Strategic Plan each year.
    • Maintain database integration between volunteer software and fundraising software.
  • With assistance from Volunteer Administrator, establish an official internship program, to include application and interview protocol, onboarding procedures and opportunities for cultivating and growing participants during their internship.
    • Encourage Team to log all actions in the database and to correspond with Stewardship Coordinators.
    • Mobile Phone Reimbursement: Select MHM roles are required to use their personal mobile phone device to complete their essential job duties. Those roles are approved for mobile phone reimbursement and will be paid through MHM payroll.
    • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Director of Engagement will supervise the Volunteer Coordinators and Administrator.

Qualifications

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to supervise volunteer and paid staff.
  • Competence in a range of information technology including in MS Office Word, Excel and Power Point and ability to utilize and maintain volunteer database program.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to demanding deadlines and to prioritize complex work load.
  • Experience in the arrangement and delivery of events / training.
  • Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing, with an ability to communicate at all levels.
  • Strong interpersonal and speaking skills and understanding of relationship management.
  • Experience in the recruitment, induction, motivation and management of volunteer workforce.
  • Ability to demonstrate positive outcomes through self-direction and team work.
  • Ability to assess situations to determine importance, urgency and risks, and make clear and sound decisions, which are timely and in the best interests of the organization.
  • Ability to anticipate, understand and respond to the needs of internal and external stakeholders to meet or exceed their expectations within the organization parameters.
  • Knowledge of current trends, resources and information related to volunteerism
  • Ability to work hours outside the standard 8:30 am to 5:00 pm timeframe and to travel if necessary.

Education and/or Experience:

Hold Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Sciences, Business Administration or other similar field or provide evidence of 3 to 5 years' equivalent and relevant experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registration: Valid SC Driver's License with a clear record able to be added to MHM insurance.
